  • College planning workshops set

    SOUTH PARIS — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will be hosting free workshops entitled "Essentials of College Planning" for adults 19 and over at the South Paris Career Center, 232 Main Street in South Paris on Monday, May 9 and 23 at 10 a.m.

    MEOC is funded entirely by the U.S. Department of Education. The program helps qualified adults make the transition towards a college education. MEOC, which is housed at the University of Maine, provides assistance to adults living in Maine and helps them go to whichever college or university they choose.

  • Supper, showcase held

    SOUTH PARIS — On Friday, March 4, Oxford Hills Christian Academy held its first baked bean supper, combined with its OHCA showcase. After everyone was well fed downstairs at the Oxford Advent Christian Church, they went upstairs to watch the students share what they had learned through skits, Bible memorization and poetry. Awards were also given out for the winners from the Math Olympics that were done earlier in the day. There were displays of students’ work and an art fair also in the classrooms

  • Student art on display

    Yes! Art Matters! is the new show at the West Paris Public Library. A well attended opening reception was held for the artists, and their families & friends, on Tuesday, April 5. This display of art is from all the ninety four K-4 students of art teacher, Eva Kozun. Each child contributed a solo work, and also worked on a cooperative group piece with their class. The works are full of unique observations, beauty, and humor.

  • Rowe Kids Art

    FUN ART — (From left) Dawson Vincent, Kaito Benson and Nic Quillen from Mrs. Plummer’s Kindergarten class are wishing they could be tiny enough to climb up and over the bumps and ramps. This colorful sculpture is part of a Big Park Sculpture. As the Rowe school art teacher, Mrs. Kozun is honored to present their fine work and everyone who takes art is included. This show highlights work that was in large part compiled just over the last trimester. The show opens on April 13, and runs through May 17.

  • Paris kindergarten registration set

    PARIS — Do you know a child who will turn five years old before October 15, 2011? If so, he or she is eligible to attend kindergarten classes in the fall.

    Kindergarten - Class of 2024: Registration for Paris Elementary Kindergarten will be held on Tuesday, May 17. You must call our school (743-7802) and sign up for an appointment time. For a preferred time, please call soon!

  • Registration begins for WMUCC

    SOUTH PARIS — Registration for University of Maine System summer and fall semesters has begun at the Western Maine University and Community College Center (WMUCC). Summer semester classes begin May 16 for most campuses.

    WMUCC will offer courses taught by university instructors on-site at the center, but students also can choose from hundreds of courses delivered on-line and via interactive television and videoconference.

  • Sixth graders get a taste of local history

    NORWAY — On March 22 and 23, the sixth grade students walked to the Norway Historical Society for a presentation by local historians on the process of researching. The presenters showed the process they went through after they received items from the Civil War donated by community members to figure out who the people were and what they had done in the war. The historical society members showed the students a variety of sources from the war era that they use for research, including government records, newspapers, maps, and other artifacts.

  • Waterford registration nears

    WATERFORD — Registration and screening for next year’s Kindergarten and Pre-K class at Waterford Memorial School will be held on Thursday, May 19. Children who will be five years old on or before October 15, are eligible to attend kindergarten. Children who will be four years old on or before October 15, are eligible to attend Pre-K. Registration is for both Waterford and Harrison Pre-K students.
