  • Senior project helps Joelle

    OXFORD HILLS — Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School seniors Erica Davis and Jasinda Mills launched their senior project - Journey for Joelle. Using decorated baby bottles at key locations throughout the Oxford Hills area with a picture of Joelle and a description of the project, the girls will collect donations. A percentage of the proceeds will go to changes at Joelle’s orphanage to help improve living conditions, such as a new heating system.

  • WMUCC to offer variety of business program options

    SOUTH PARIS — Western Maine University and Community College Center (WMUCC) will offer a growing variety of courses leading to degrees and certificates in business management, entrepreneurial studies and accounting from the campuses of the University of Maine System during the upcoming summer and fall semesters. Courses are taught at the center by university faculty or are delivered from the campuses via interactive television and videoconference. Many courses and programs are available entirely on-line.

  • Hebron Alumnus to speak at Academy's Cum Laude ceremony

    HEBRON — Hebron Academy alumnus and Google executive Irakly George Arison will address the school community at the annual Cum Laude Society induction ceremony on Friday, May 6.

    Modeled after Phi Beta Kappa, the Cum Laude Society was founded in 1906 to recognize academic achievement in secondary schools, and now consists of nearly 350 chapters, primarily in independent schools in the United States. Membership in the Cum Laude Society is Hebron Academy’s highest academic honor.

  • Most improved students honored

    NORWAY — On Friday, April 8, Guy E. Rowe Elementary held its Second Trimester Most Improved student assembly. Each teacher in the building can nominate one student as the Most Improved for the trimester.

  • Maine Community College System honors students of the year

    AUGUSTA — Seven community college students were honored this week for their academic success and campus and community involvement at a ceremony hosted by the Maine Community College System (MCCS) Board of Trustees.

    The 2011 Student of the Year Awards Ceremony was held Wednesday, April 27, at the Senator Inn in Augusta. The awards ceremony were followed by a luncheon. MCCS President John Fitzsimmons gave brief remarks. He was joined by Kris Doody, Chair of the MCCS Board of Trustees.

  • Local students take a labventure

    PORTLAND — In April, 45 fifth graders from Hartford-Sumner Elementary School, 58 sixth graders from Paris Elementary, and 20 sixth graders from Hebron Station School traveled to Portland’s waterfront to participate in the Gulf of Maine Research Institute’s LabVenture! program.
