    HENNIKER, NH — Three local residents were among those graduating from New England College in Henniker, NH, on Saturday, May 14. Harry Bennett, of Norway, received a Master of Education in School Principal; Amy LaPrell, of South Paris, received a Master of Education in Ed: Literacy & Language Arts and Jennifer Padgett, of South Paris, received a Master of Education in Ed: Literacy & Language Arts.

    ANNUAL EVENT — At the conclusion of the Guy E. Rowe end-of-year awards ceremny, Madyson Mitchell’s name from Mrs. Eastman’s class was drawn from all the Most Improved and Top Academic students for the entire year to “give Mr. Sincerbeaux his pie,” which she does with enthusiasm!

  • Woodstock Elementary School news

    WOODSTOCK — In Kindergarten, Ms. Wilkey's class, they have been learning a lot about flowers and insects. In math they are finishing up a unit on measurement. They have enjoyed using rulers, scales and containers to explore measurement concepts. In literacy they are finishing the last Sitton unit, which has been on “The Lion and the Mouse.” Writer’s Workshop has been popular lately. Everyone has great ideas that they want to write about so they are working hard to write them down.

  • Poland school library wins recognition

    POLAND — On March 16 the Maine Association of School Libraries (MASL) was pleased to recognize Tammy Fraser, Librarian at Poland Community School, with a visit from the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) President Nancy Everhart. When Dr. Everhart became AASL President, she vowed to visit an outstanding school library in every state in the U.S. in order to bring to the general public visual models of what good school libraries offer students and communities. Poland Community School (PCS) was awarded that honor in the State of Maine.

  • Revitalizing Norway: a student's view

    SOUTH PARIS — This year Brewster Burns’ and Peter Toohey’s sophomore humanities class at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School were asked to rethink and redesign downtown Norway. Using knowledge learned throughout the year, students were asked to come up with ideas that would make the downtown a vibrant economic and cultural center.

  • Dean's list, honor roll

    Washington County

    CALAIS — Roger Girardin, III of Poland was named to the Dean's List at Washington County Community College in Calais. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or above, be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and have no course grade below a C.

    At the end of every year we always pause and reflect about the past year. We also look ahead and begin setting goals for the next school year.

    This year is certainly going to be remembered for the fact that we are saying farewell to five of our best staff members.

    Music teacher, Dan Barker and cafeteria assistant, Carolyn Knights are retiring after many years of dedication to our children.
