    • OHCHS grads receive Gina Bizier Memorial Pharmacy Scholarship

      SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS — Kayla Kimball of Waterford and Mariah Colby of Oxford are the first students to benefit from a new scholarship set up in memory of Gina Bizier. Gina, a graduate of OHCHS, became a pharmacist and loved her chosen profession. Gina's parents, Barbara and Bob Bizier, presented the scholarships.     • Oxford teachers back early

      OXFORD — Despite high temperatures and humidity teachers were at work Friday, August 19. Ten percent of Oxford Elementary School teachers and staff voluntarily gave up one of the last days of summer and headed back to school early to work on improving student success in math. More than 30 teachers attended the first of a series of workshops on Formative Assessment presented by Cheryl Tobey of the Education Development Center in Maine.

    • Dean's list, honor roll

      SYRACUSE, NY — Three area students were among those named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2011 semester at Syracuse University. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must achieve at least a 3.4 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the semester. Joshua Oliver of Bethel attends the College of Visual and Performing Arts; Danielle Gorski of Bryant Pond attends the Newhouse School of Public Communications and Lynde Folsom of Stoneham attends the College of Arts and Sciences.

    • Berry gets scholarship

      PORTLAND — Laura Ann Berry of Casco was among the University of Southern Maine students awarded scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year.

      Berry was awarded the Betty and Sumner Hancock Scholarship. A 2007 graduate of Lake Region High School, she is the daughter of Scott and Diane Sutherland of Casco.

    • Clubrowe holds extravaganza

      NORWAY — Clubrowe  has announced its end of summer extravaganza, which will take place on August 26 from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the Masonic Hall- Temple Street, which lies behind Agren Appliance and the Norway Post Office.

    • CMCC offers Introduction to Phlebotomy course

      AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer Introduction to Phlebotomy on Tuesday evenings from September 6 to October 25 from 5-8 p.m. or Thursday evenings from September 8 to October 27 from 5-8 p.m. The cost is $450 and includes materials and book.

    • Student orientation at WMUCC

      SOUTH PARIS — Any student who plans to take his or her first higher education course at Western Maine University and Community College (WMUCC) this fall semester should plan to attend an orientation session. At these sessions professional staff give prospective students a look at how their course will work - whether it’s an on-site, on-line, or interactive television (ITV) course - prior to attending the first class.

    • Donations in memory of Alice Cornwall

      OXFORD — For the 14th year, the Hannaford store in Oxford is providing a box where shoppers may drop off donated school supplies for local children. The annual program to collect school supplies for students in SAD #17 will be underway at the store this week. Mrs. Alice Cornwall originally launched the program after she heard that some children in the area could not afford to purchase necessary school supplies. The donation box will be located at the front of the store and will be in place until the end of September.

    • LOOK class builds fairy houses at Robert's Farm

      NORWAY — The "Fairy Houses and Nature" class offered through the L.O.O.K (Learning Opportunities for Our Kids) program at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School the last two weeks of July took a field trip to Robert's Farm one day. Robert's Farm is free and open to the public through the hard work and perseverance of the Western Foothills Land trust. There are many beautiful and scenic trails; their names honor some of the community’s exemplary residents.

    • Lindstrom receives degree

      DURANGO, CO — Mary Lindstrom of Oxford was among the graduates earning their degrees at Fort Lewis College’s Spring 2011 Commencement. Lindstrom received her degree in chemistry.
