Barbara E. Durgin
Mar 29, 2011 12:00 amNORWAY — Barbara E. Durgin, 71, of Norway, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Fryeburg Health Care Center in Fryeburg. She was born in Sanford on June 2, 1939, the daughter of Leonard and Wilma O’Brien Sprague. She grew up in the Norway area and graduated from Bridgton Academy.
She had been a seamstress her whole life. She started working in a dress factory in Bridgton, then in several shoe shops and in her later years she made dog coats and helped her daughter make pocketbooks. She was a member of the Heywood Club in Norway.
Laura Mae Halacy
Mar 24, 2011 12:01 amRUMFORD — Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Mae Halacy of Milton Township were conducted on Saturday, March 12, at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin Street in Rumford, with Rev. Linda Kimball officiating.
Music selections were "Rock of Ages," "On Eagle's Wings" and "There is a Balm in Gilead"
Interment in the spring will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, at the Abbott's Mills Cemetery in Rumford.
A reception followed the services at the Virgin Memorial Chapel of the Rumford United Methodist Church on Linnell Street in Rumford.
Marjorie F. McAllister
Mar 24, 2011 12:01 amWINDHAM — Marjorie F. McAllister, 89, passed away of natural causes on March 16, 2011. Born in South Paris on April 4, 1921, she was the daughter of Philip and Velma (Lord) Keene. She graduated from South Paris High School in 1939. She enlisted in the WAVES in 1944. Following her time in the service, she worked for General Electric in New York and later for Consumers Water Company in Portland.
Gwen Bessey
Mar 24, 2011 12:01 amSOUTH PARIS — Gwen Bessey, a resident of South Paris, died on March 19, 2011. She was a long time employee of Wilner Wood Products of South Paris. She loved her family, gardening, cooking, line dancing, her "house on the hill", and helping at all of the functions of the First Congregational Church of South Paris. She was much loved and respected by her family and the community.
Richard E. 'Dick' Andrews
Mar 21, 2011 12:00 amDANVERS, MA — Richard E. "Dick" Andrews, 64, formerly of Essex, MA and Kittery, died February 15, 2011 in the Hunt Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Danvers following an extended illness. Born in Ipswich on May 6, 1946, he was the son of the late William W. and Hazel L. (Young) Andrews. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1965.
As a youth, he was involved in both the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. His interests were hiking, sports, bowling and tropical fish. He was employed by the former Hood Foam Company in Marblehead.
William J. Cashin, Jr.
Mar 17, 2011 12:21 amSOUTH PARIS — William J. Cashin, Jr., 82, of South Paris passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Togus. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on July 27, 1928, the son of William and Dorothy (Drake) Cashin. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.
He worked for American Can Co. for 22 years then became Head Custodian at Hacienda LaPuente School District in CA for nine years. He was a very active member of the VFW and American Legion.
