      MILTON TOWNSHIP — Peter R. Hooper, 63, of Milton Township died Friday, July 15, 2011 after courageously facing his struggle with renal cell carcinoma.

      He was born in Portland on March 24, 1948, a son of the late Marguerite (Bachelder) and Stuart DeRoche and Robert Hooper. He graduated from Gorham High school in 1966 where he excelled in sports, especially basketball. He was a true woodsman, a steward of the land who loved to look back at his logging jobs with pride and sound ecological practice. His witty sense of humor and love for his family will live on forever.

      NORWAY — Robert A. Crane Sr., 92, of Norway died peacefully at the Norway Rehabilitation Center, on Friday, July 15, 2011. He was born April 21, 1919 in Brighton, MA to the late Kennedy and Mittie (Lawrence) Crane Sr. Robert moved to Rockland as a small child and attended Rockland schools.

      SOUTH PARIS — Edna M. Millett, 67, of South Paris passed away peacefully on Friday July 15, 2011 in Portland with family and friends by her side. She was born on August 2, 1943 in Norway to Charles and Ruby (Harding) Dodge. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She enjoyed putting on huge family celebrations; cooking and laundry were her passions.

      SOUTH PARIS — Muriel S. Lord, 82, of Streaked Mtn. Road, South Paris, died Friday, July 15, 2011 at Market Square Health Care Center where she had been a resident for a month. She was born November 23, 1928, a daughter of Stanley M. and Vivien Elwell Sturtevant, Sr. She grew up on the family farm on Streaked Mountain in Paris. She worked with her father on the farm with dairy cows, draft horses and harvesting field crops and raking blueberries.

      GREEN TWNSHP, OH —  Edward Eugene Colby, 81, of Green Township, Ohio and Waterford, died October 27, 2010.

      He was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on June 8, 1929 the son of Roy B. and Hazel I. Hackett Colby. He graduated from Brunswick High School and Princeton University.

      He served our country in the U. S. Navy from 1951 to 1954. He married Chloe Gertrude McIntire on March 21, 1953. He had been employed at Proctor & Gamble for 34 years as the Associate Director of Food Technical Packaging, retiring in 1988.

      Lewiston — Tim A. Smith, 44, died suddenly Sunday, July 3, 2011 in Lewiston. He was born in Norway on May 10, 1967 to Neil A. Smith of Norway and Clara (Meserve) Smith-Hunton of Norway. He attended Oxford Hills Schools. He worked many years for Aspen Tree and other jobs. He became disabled in 1995.

    • Fred Schwaner

      HEBRON — Fred Schwaner, 59, of Hebron passed peacefully at home on Thursday, July 7, 2011 after a strong battle with cancer. He was born March 2, 1952, the son of Frederick and Julie (Kolar) Schwaner in Southside Hospital, Long Island, NY.

      He lived a full life and will be remembered for his love for teaching. He taught for 38 years, beginning his career in Hartford-Sumner then moving on to being a teaching principal and sixth grade teacher in SAD 17 in Waterford, Rowe, Madison and Paris elementary schools.

      NORWAY — Joseph F. Bumbaca, Jr., 69, of Norway, formerly of Bedford, MA, passed away on July 7, 2011 at Bridgton Hospital with his family by his side, after a courageous second battle with cancer.
