Jul 21, 2011 12:00 amMILTON TOWNSHIP — Peter R. Hooper, 63, of Milton Township died Friday, July 15, 2011 after courageously facing his struggle with renal cell carcinoma.
He was born in Portland on March 24, 1948, a son of the late Marguerite (Bachelder) and Stuart DeRoche and Robert Hooper. He graduated from Gorham High school in 1966 where he excelled in sports, especially basketball. He was a true woodsman, a steward of the land who loved to look back at his logging jobs with pride and sound ecological practice. His witty sense of humor and love for his family will live on forever.

He was born April 21, 1919 in Brighton, MA to the late Kennedy and Mittie (Lawrence) Crane Sr. Robert moved to Rockland as a small child and attended Rockland schools.

She enjoyed putting on huge family celebrations; cooking and laundry were her passions.

She was born November 23, 1928, a daughter of Stanley M. and Vivien Elwell Sturtevant, Sr. She grew up on the family farm on Streaked Mountain in Paris. She worked with her father on the farm with dairy cows, draft horses and harvesting field crops and raking blueberries.

He was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on June 8, 1929 the son of Roy B. and Hazel I. Hackett Colby. He graduated from Brunswick High School and Princeton University.
He served our country in the U. S. Navy from 1951 to 1954. He married Chloe Gertrude McIntire on March 21, 1953. He had been employed at Proctor & Gamble for 34 years as the Associate Director of Food Technical Packaging, retiring in 1988.

Jul 14, 2011 12:00 amHEBRON — Fred Schwaner, 59, of Hebron passed peacefully at home on Thursday, July 7, 2011 after a strong battle with cancer. He was born March 2, 1952, the son of Frederick and Julie (Kolar) Schwaner in Southside Hospital, Long Island, NY.
He lived a full life and will be remembered for his love for teaching. He taught for 38 years, beginning his career in Hartford-Sumner then moving on to being a teaching principal and sixth grade teacher in SAD 17 in Waterford, Rowe, Madison and Paris elementary schools.
