  • Earl L. Marr, Jr.

    RUMFORD — Earl L. Marr, Jr., 90, of Rumford, died Monday, August 8, 2011 at the Rumford Community Home, Rumford,  with his loving family by his side. He was born in North Bridgton on October 29, 1920, the son of Earl and Alice (Kneeland) Marr, Sr. He graduated from Norway High School, Class of 1940 and had attended the University of Maine at Orono.

  • Adam F. Towne

    PORTLAND — Adam F. Towne, 50, of Portland, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Barron Center in Portland. He was born in Lewiston on May 23, 1961, the son of Bradford and Patricia Morrill Towne. He attended Oxford Hills High School until his sophomore year when he moved to Fryeburg Academy and graduated in the Class of 1979. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1980 to 1984 as a meteorologist.

  • Caroline E. Hammond

    SOUTH PARIS — Caroline E. Hammond, 86, lifelong resident of South Paris, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway. She was born in Paris on July 16, 1925, the daughter of Charles Henry and Pauline Estella Hammond. She graduated from Paris High School in 1942 and had been the Deputy Treasurer for the County of Oxford for many years.

  • Margaret Spencer Thorman

    SOUTH PARIS — Margaret Spencer Thorman of South Paris, beloved mother of Barrett Pottle and Adam Thorman, died peacefully on August 4, 2001.

    She was born in Rocky Mount, NC, on May 21, 1927, the eldest daughter of Evelyn Barrett and Thomas Clarenden Spencer. She attended schools in Rocky Mount and graduated cum laude from UNC Greensboro in 1949. After graduate work at Smith College, she toured Europe, where she met and married her husband, Richard Thorman. She fondly remembered her Bohemian years and loved to tell stories about Paris.

  • Charles Hubbard

    NORWAY — Charles Hubbard passed away April 24, 2011 at his home in Norway, after a long continual struggle with his health. He was born September 2, 1941, the son of Walter Charles Hubbard and Elizabeth Grace Grover-Hubbard, of Otisfield. He grew up between Otisfield and Norway.

    He loved spending time with wife, traveling across the USA, especially Alaska. He spent a lot of his life living in the southern part of the US.

  • Leslie A. Thurlow

    BRYANT POND — Leslie A. Thurlow, 84, of Bryant Pond passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. He was born in Woodstock on March 20, 1927, the son of Arthur and Myrtle Hendrickson Thurlow. He graduated from Woodstock High School and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He married Patricia Baker and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage.

  • Conrad Knox service

    RUMFORD — Funeral services for Assistant Fire Chief Conrad E. Knox, of Peru, were conducted on Thursday, July 21, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Rumford with the Rev. Dr. Timothy H. Parsons as celebrant. Eucharistic Minister was Karen Phair and organist was Harriet Rudd. Ushers were Pam Washington and David McKivergan.

    Music selections were "O God Our Help," "Abide With Me," "Amazing Grace," "How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place" and "Ye Holy Angels Bright."
