Letters

  • No ATVs in residential neighborhoods

    To the Editor:

It appeared that the writer of a letter and paid ad (1/20/11 AD) was confusing a matrimonial ceremony with the constitution when he wrote, “Speak now or forever hold your peace.” I would remind him that the first amendment to the constitution says, “Congress shall make no law.....abridging the freedom of speech....” That would be the very freedom of speech that the writer was practicing while telling others to speak now or never again.

  • Are booster teams for the kids or the parents?

    To the Editor:

I know that my kid is not the best basketball player on our team, but he’s not the worst either. His teammates and him play their hearts out every week and do their best. I want him to win every that he can and be as good as the next kid.

  • ATV traffic on South Paris roads

    To the Editor:

  • To the red wallet thief...

    To the Editor:

  • Thank you for helping with lunch

    To the Editor:

On Friday and Saturday, January 28 and 29, Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School hosted the District II Honors Music festival. The festival brings not only the student musicians from all around southern Maine to the building, but also their music teachers. The festival culminates in a concert which also brings the student's families to OHCHS as well.

  • Congratulations to Harrison Highway

    To the Editor:

With all the negativism in the papers and on the news today, perhaps it's time we take a look around and give some thanks for things that are right.

Along those lines, I'd like to thank the Harrison Highway Department workers for the beautiful job they did this past summer/fall on the north end of the Maple Ridge Road. I hope I've named the road correctly, but those of us who travel the "back way" between Naples and Waterford know that section of road has been one of the roughest around and now it is one of the smoothest.

  • Thank you from Rightstart

    To the Editor:

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Rightstart, Inc., Christmas for Kids and Christmas for Teens programs, we would like to thank the many schools, businesses, banks, credit unions, churches, civic groups and individuals in the Oxford Hills community as well as individuals who live outside the Oxford Hills for their support of these programs. Rightstart is an all volunteer organization serving children and teens in the Oxford Hills.

  • BBE claims ludicrous

    To the Editor:

I would like to respond to your recent article on the environmental impact of the proposed Oxford Casino in which I was quoted.

  • Working in phases

    To the Editor:

Black Bear Entertainment (BBE) has taken curious note of one recent press report in the Sun Journal, that a few folks seem surprised that the Oxford resort casino is being built in phases.

  • Debit card warning

    To the Editor:

I feel it my moral and civic responsibility to raise awareness and warn the hundreds of other small businesses of a dangerous and potentially devastating situation.
