Letters

  • Thank you D.A.R.E.

    To the Editor:

I would like to thank Ryan Kane and the Oxford Lodge for their generous donation to our D.A.R.E. program, and also Oxford Networks for their donation. If it wasn't for the generosity of people who care about this program it would not be possible.

    God bless.

  • Some things just don’t change

    To the Editor:

Regardless of who is in power, whether it be the Democrats or the Republicans, some things in Maine simply remain the same. Oh sure the rhetoric changes, but here we are under an administration and a legislature controlled by Republicans and just like when the Democrat was in charge, a mother can still chose to kill the baby in her womb, but you and I cannot chose to put gas without ethanol in our cars.

  • LePage is devisive

    To the Editor:

Last Friday on the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, Maine governor Paul LePage announced plans to remove a mural from Maine's Department of Labor building painted by artist Judy Taylor of Tremont. The Portland Press Herald writes,

  • Hooker family sends thanks

    To the Editor:

From the family of Jimmy Hooker:

We would like to extend our most heartfelt gratitude to the entire Oxford Hill Community. The outpouring of love and support we have received from our friends, neighbors and family has touched us deeply.

We would like to extend a special thanks to SAD 17 for their generous offer to use their facilities for our celebration of Jim. Also a special thanks to Don Mayberry for his patience, understanding and good humor.

  • Will you help?

    To the Editor:

Norway is a beautiful town surrounded by the silent beauty of our Oxford Hills. We have 86 miles of roads and streets. Our town crew cannot possibly pick up all the trash and litter that shows up after the snow is gone.

Last year we divided downtown into zones. That worked in some areas, but in others it didn’t.

Will you help? Would you adopt a road or part of a road or a street or part of a street and try and keep it picked up?

Watch for further notice for the big pickup in early April.

  • Paris Utility District rate increase

    To the Editor:

A letter, dated March 11, was sent to all rate payers of the Paris Utility District advising them of a public hearing to be held on March 28, at the Paris Fire Station at 7 p.m. At issue is the proposed sewer rate increase of 32 percent. The rate increase is a result of the new debt service costs associated with the completion of your new sewerage treatment facility. The public is encouraged to attend and have their questions answered.

  • In the interest of clarity

    To the Editor:

I vacation several times a year in Maine, and have been following the issue of ATV road use. I attended the March 14 Select Board Meeting while in Paris, and I must say that Mr. Kurtz has the whole thing wrong (“And the fur…” 17 March 2011, 1B).

The issue is not about Title 12 Subsection 6 (a). The issue is that the Select Board voted on January 10 to restrict ATV access to Parsons Road.

  • Learning money management

    To the Editor:

  • Donna Kangas – not Donna Kangas

    To The Editor:

As owners of Twin Town Glass in Norway, my husband Rick and I strive to project a reputation of honesty, integrity and quality work. I was dismayed to open the paper last week and see my name (this is not me, but another Donna Kangas) in the Oxford County Superior Court News with a drug charge filed from 1996 and, unlike the other listings, no town of residence was named (she is also just about my age).

  • And the fur will fly

    To the Editor:

The Town of Paris is in the midst of a raging dispute. Emotions are high. Accusations are flying. People are talking right past each other. And the issue is far from being resolved.
