Letters

  • Blood drive kudos

    To the Editor:

I would like to thank Paul Flannigan for putting together a memorial blood drive in memory of my husband, Ken Verrill, who passed away in July from a heart attack. This blood drive was such a success. Also I would like to thank the Oxford Lodge for their help and support. So many of you came out and gave blood. The ones who couldn't passed the word along to make this the success that it was. Their goal was 46 pints of blood they could use; the ending total was 61.

  • Pick up Norway

    To the Editor:

On the eve of a major snowstorm I wonder what effect this or other storms may have on our efforts to pick up Norway in the next few days. With that in mind it would seem that the best time for our project is April 16.

It would be nice to hear from groups like Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions clubs that they each have a few members who would give an hour or two to pick up on the street or road where they live.

My own street and lawn have a flattened beer can, two paper cups, a napkin and a newspaper flyer from a local business.

  • Give LePage a chance

    To the Editor:

I am so disgusted with what's going on. Gov. LePage has only been in office for a short time. So how do you know that what he is trying to do won't work? You don't even give the man a chance. At least he is trying to do something to save the state some money. But every time he tries to cut something everybody flips out. There needs to be cuts somewhere if Maine wants to get back on track. What part of that is so hard to understand?

  • Thank you from library staff

    To the Editor:

  • Thanks, "Spaghettios"

    To the Editor:

Thanks to all who helped and attended the complimentary dinner March 26 put on by the Lovell Neighborhood Watch. Special thanks to Hannaford in Bridgton, Food City, Dunkin Donuts of Bridgton, Lovell VFW, Rosie's, Melby's and Wicked Good Store. Most of all, a huge thanks to the "Spaghettio's" for all the effort to make it happen. Come join us for the next meeting, April 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the New Suncook School.

  • Thank you D.A.R.E.

    To the Editor:

I would like to thank Ryan Kane and the Oxford Lodge for their generous donation to our D.A.R.E. program, and also Oxford Networks for their donation. If it wasn't for the generosity of people who care about this program it would not be possible.

    God bless.

  • Some things just don’t change

    To the Editor:

Regardless of who is in power, whether it be the Democrats or the Republicans, some things in Maine simply remain the same. Oh sure the rhetoric changes, but here we are under an administration and a legislature controlled by Republicans and just like when the Democrat was in charge, a mother can still chose to kill the baby in her womb, but you and I cannot chose to put gas without ethanol in our cars.

  • LePage is devisive

    To the Editor:

Last Friday on the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, Maine governor Paul LePage announced plans to remove a mural from Maine's Department of Labor building painted by artist Judy Taylor of Tremont. The Portland Press Herald writes,

  • Hooker family sends thanks

    To the Editor:

From the family of Jimmy Hooker:

We would like to extend our most heartfelt gratitude to the entire Oxford Hill Community. The outpouring of love and support we have received from our friends, neighbors and family has touched us deeply.

We would like to extend a special thanks to SAD 17 for their generous offer to use their facilities for our celebration of Jim. Also a special thanks to Don Mayberry for his patience, understanding and good humor.

  • Will you help?

    To the Editor:

Norway is a beautiful town surrounded by the silent beauty of our Oxford Hills. We have 86 miles of roads and streets. Our town crew cannot possibly pick up all the trash and litter that shows up after the snow is gone.

Last year we divided downtown into zones. That worked in some areas, but in others it didn’t.

Will you help? Would you adopt a road or part of a road or a street or part of a street and try and keep it picked up?

Watch for further notice for the big pickup in early April.
