Letters

  • Welfare recipients need to volunteer

    To the Editor:

  • Frustrated with the 'system'

    To the Editor:

  • Thank you, local merchants

    To the Editor:

Thank you, merchants. I was one of the lucky people who won an Easter ham this year. It is nice of the merchants to give back to the people who support them all year.

It creates a feeling of good will and encourages the people to shop locally. It is a nice annual event. I was glad to see the towns of Norway, Paris, West Paris, Oxford and Buckfield included.

    Thanks again.

  • Snowe could provide bipartisan leadership

    To the Editor:

On the day that Standard & Poor’s put a “negative” outlook on the U.S. AAA credit rating, citing excessive debt and deep budget deficits, it was timely and appropriate that U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe would be meeting with a group of Aroostook County legislators, community and business leaders, and political activists.

  • In support of Fine Arts

    To the Editor:

    Music education is essential.

  • It's third-party time

    To the Editor:

Maine has had a favorable history when it comes to third parties in chaotic political times. Two independent governors have been elected inside this state and we even once had the highest elected Green Party candidate in the country. Not since the days of Ross Perot during the 1992 presidential election has this state needed a party from the “outside” to make the changes needed for future prosperity.

  • Thank you for your help

    To the Editor:

I want to thank everyone who has brought in hot meals to me this winter. I want to thank Alter for doing my laundry and I want to thank Dean for shoveling and sanding my path so I could get to my car.

When I go to Norway shopping, everyone is so good at opening doors for me and when I’m getting my groceries someone will come up behind me and say, “Can I help you get something?”

Everyone is so good and I want to thank you all. I appreciate everything.

  • Pick up Norway

    To the Editor:

April 16 is the day for Pick up Norway. There is one change in the place. You can pick up your trash bags on April 15 or 16, at the parking lot next to L. F. Pike & Son Store at 339 Main Street — you can drive in.

In our society today it’s so easy to throw something out the window and give it no further thought. How about next time, take it with you and put it in a bag to dispose of it properly.

I was hoping that 100 people would come forward and in an hour or two we could make a difference. We still can.

  • Norway Rehab is a great place

    To the Editor:

I would just like to say what a good place Norway Rehabilitation is. I’ve been in here for 13 years and think that I should know. Everyone in here is so good and they do everything they can for you. I love them all. Thank you.

  • Belated thanks

    To the Editor:

I want to apologize to The Lake Store and Polly's Variety for leaving them out my Thank You letter about our Relay for Life Spaghetti supper held at the Oxford Advent Christian Church. Both Polly's and The Lake Store donated all the desserts for our event and they were delicious. Thank you and I am so sorry for not mentioning you in the first Thank You letter I sent to the paper.
