Letters

  • Thank you Oxford Hills

    To the Editor:

For 11 years the generous, and fun to be with, members of the Rotary Club of Oxford Hills have sponsored the Student of the Month Program at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Each month, a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior share breakfast and song with Rotary Club members. It is a joyous celebration of the exceptional accomplishments of 28 fabulous students each year.

  • Nursing Home Week

    To the Editor:

National Nursing Home Week is May 8 - 14 and Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris wishes to thank everyone throughout the community for their continued support. The week really highlights everyone’s efforts in enriching the residents’ experience. Our success is directly attributed to everyone’s dedication and it is greatly appreciated.

  • Resort Casino is perfect for Oxford

    To the Editor:

Since the passage of the Casino referendum, groups have initiated numerous attempts ranging from city and town recounts to a debate questioning the actual mileage between Oxford and Bangor, to derail the Casino project.

  • Judge not that ye be not judged

    To the Editor:

  • Stop enabling

    To the Editor:

I recently read the letter from Shannon Moxcey, in regards to previous letters about those who are receiving welfare and help from similar funded programs.

I myself, as a hard working mother who does not receive help from the state, feel badly for those people who cannot afford the things they want for themselves, their children or families; however it was acts of their own volition that caused them to need help in the first place.

  • Anglican church

    To the Editor:

Ruth Mohammed joined us in watching the royal wedding yesterday. Ruth is a sincere Christian, a Nigerian Anglican, married to a Muslim.

As I watched all of those dignitaries, including the future head of the Church of England, mumble and stumble over the words of great Christian hymns that they did not understand, I thought of Ruth. Her faith is obviously greater than most of the Anglicans in Westminster Abbey yesterday.

  • Thank you Paris Fire Dept.

    To the Editor:

We would like to thank the Paris Fire Dept and all the other towns that showed up and bravely fought a fire at 224 Paris Hill on Wednesday, April 27. Thanks to their hard work and dedication the fire was put out without any injuries.

If it wasn’t for their quick response my brother and his fiancé would have surely lost all their irreplaceable memorabilia such as family photos. Words cannot express the gratitude they feel towards the immense community support that they have already received.

  • Clean up Norway

    To the Editor:

A few brave souls turned out on April 16, to pick up trash on the streets and roadsides of Norway. The did a great job, but they weren’t enough. Looking at the bright, cleaned up places just accented what didn’t get done.

Would you, will you give an hour or two on May 21, to help finish the job?

You won't have to drive or walk very far to find what is left behind.

Please find the time on Saturday, May 21, to lend a hand and make this a job well done.

    Thanks.

  • Challenges in accessing services

    To the Editor:

There have been a couple of Letters to the Editor in the last two weeks which have caught my attention. The first letter was from Faith Gittings on April 21, 2011, and the second letter was from Tom Hurd, dated April 28, 2011, which responded to Ms. Gittings' initial letter.

  • Sweden Volunteer Fire Dept.

    To the Editor:

I am a resident of the town of Sweden and have been an active member on the fire department for five years. I went through the fire fighter one course and received my s.c.b.a to become an interior firefighter. I am completed in N.I.M.S compliance through homeland security and had just as many if not more certificates then my own fire chief.
