  • Thank you teachers ...

    To the Editor:

This is a letter of appreciation to all of those involved in the education of the youth of Maine and particularly to those in the district which was responsible for the education of our three children: Justin, Laura and Daniel Rand.

  • Is it a message?

    To the Editor:

We have had an epidemic of killer tornadoes, almost unprecedented rains with consequent hugely destructive flooding, enormously damaging hurricanes and blizzards that paralyzed major cities. Could it be that the Creator on the Universe is sending us a message?

  • Thank you, Ed Thayer

    To the Editor:

On behalf of the Oxford Hills National Honor Society I would like to send out a huge thank you to Ed Thayer.

We've had a long year filled with collecting, wrapping, boxing, carrying - and unfortunately, smelling - numerous pairs of shoes in order to donate to Soles for Souls, a nonprofit organization dedicated to giving shoes to those who are without.

  • Greenwood should stay with Tri-Town

    To the Editor:

When I read the article in the Sunday paper that the Town of Greenwood voted to go with Pace instead of staying with Tri-Town I was very upset. I think Tri-Town has provided excellent service to all of the towns involved. They had their first meeting to get organized about 30 years ago at my house. My wife and I and my son were members and active for many years.

  • LURC 'reform'

    To the Editor:

For many years, the North Woods have been subject to continual development pressures. And now, the pressures for change are growing stronger. Resisting those pressures, with its finger in the dike, has been the Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC).

  • Will you connect with a child?

    To the Editor:

  • Good news and bad news

    To the Editor:

There is good news and there is bad news. The good news is that as a result of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, humanity learned that total, all-out war was not longer possible. Large scale, all-out wars could no longer occur due to the destructive power of nuclear weaponry. The doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) has served as well.

Unfortunately, the good news is also the bad news.
