Letters

  • Happy years at Kokosing

    To the Editor:

I have to respond to the interview in this past week’s Advertiser with George Holden.

I worked with his mother Iva Holden in the summer of 1948-1949 at Camp Kokosing in Waterford. She was the cook there. It was a girls’ camp at the time. Her sister Doris worked there for awhile.

When we had time off in the afternoon, Mrs. Holden would take us down to her home in North Bridgton. All of her boys would be sitting on the front porch.

  • Thank you for your support

    To the Editor:

The American Legion Post and Auxiliary 72 on Church Street in South Paris want to thank everyone who attended and worked on the benefit supper for George Brown. This shows how our community comes together in time of need. A very special thanks to 10-year-old Cassadi Chase who donated her 50/50 winnings of $60 to the George Brown benefit.

  • Thank you, Tammy and Julie

    To the Editor:

Whoopie! The ninth annual Harrison Recreation 5K Run by the Lake was a great success due to the efforts of Race Director Tammy Anderson and her assistant Julie Murphy. Together both these ladies worked many hours going above and beyond preparing for this popular evening race while paying attention to each and every detail along the way.

  • Our views 'Overkill'

    To the Editor:

First of all you may attribute the first two paragraphs of your editorial to me, Paul J. Mattson, NRA Certified Instructor and Range Safety Officer at Maine CWP Training of Harrison.

  • Norway Arts Festival thanks all

    To The Editor:

  • Plea to all veterans

    To the Editor:

This is a plea to all veterans no matter what branch of service and to all veterans’ friends. The 2011 Institute of Medicine Report on Agent Orange and the Blue Water Navy Veterans states that it can’t be determined that the Blue Water Navy sailors were or were not subjected to Agent Orange.

  • Need more about the Norway Tri

    To the Editor:

I have just finished reading the Advertiser Democrat and was a little disappointed this week. My take on the paper's focus is the local area events and people in Norway and neighboring towns. I enjoyed reading about the Arts Festival and seeing the wonderful photos of the event that so many of us went to and had a great time. There was another event that day that I was hard pressed to find information; only a very small, insignificantly placed picture. That event was the Norway Triathlon.

  • Top of the list Festival thanks

    To the Editor:

Scores of volunteers, musicians, performers, artists, poets, traffic police, merchants, and Mother Nature herself, collaborated to make the 2012 Norway Arts Festival a tremendous success, and all of them deserve thanks and praise. But three dedicated women - Aranka Matolcsy, Rijah Newell and Brenda Melhus - are at the top of the list. Without their leadership and consistent commitment of time, energy, and talents, our Festival would never have come together so beautifully.

  • Otisfield needs a “real town meeting” again

    To the Editor:

  • Thank you voters

    To the Editor:

I want to thank the voters of Paris for electing me to the Board of Selectmen. The opportunity to serve the citizens of Paris is a privilege and for the next three years I plan to work on making Paris a town we can all be proud of.

My congratulations go to Ryan Lorrain for winning the other selectman’s seat and I look forward to working with him and the other Board members as we do the citizen’s business.
