Message to Maine Congressional delegation
Mar 14, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Dear members of Maine’s Congressional delegation:
I would like to take a moment to tell you that I know none of you is dumb, I know that each of you has taken an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, I further know that not one of you has chosen to abide by that oath and that you, by your votes and actions, have declared war against the citizens of the United States.
Free men are armed

While appreciating Kristen Brownell's sincerity in "Right to bear arms not individual's" I am still compelled to respond.
This classic tired argument always ignores the obvious use throughout the Bill of Rights of the phrase "the people" to mean all citizens. The people have the right to free speech for example, to peacefully assemble as well as to keep and bear arms.
Say 'no' to tar sands oil

Though we didn’t go to the Washington DC Climate Change rally on February 16, a group of Norway folks went to the Portland gathering on January 26.
We marched with 1,400 other concerned, determined and enthusiastic protesters to voice our opposition to the ExxonMobil oil company’s plan to pipe toxic tar sands from Canada through the 62-year-old Portland Montreal Pipeline that runs across Maine to South Portland for shipping.
Right to bear arms not individual's

Thank you, Kim Waite, for your excellent letter to the editor in the Advertiser Democrat, dated January 21, 2013, regarding gun control.
As Kim suggests, the wording of the Second Amendment to our Bill of Rights gives the right to bear arms to a well-regulate militia. At that time, during the Revolutionary War, our country was in great peril, and our forefathers therefore understood the great necessity for this amendment.
You missed it!
Mar 07, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
In my recent letter to the editor, my point was somehow missed by that left turn you took. It matters not what the private citizens have or own as in concealed weapons, it could have been red boats or red bicycles for all I care.
If the information contained on the Red Boat Owners documents is the same as the information which is on the concealed weapon permits, I would be against offering it to everyone without a need to know.
Help thy neighbor
Feb 28, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
On February 12, two days after the blizzard, my son Scott and I noticed some two and a half feet of snow on our neighbor's camp roof. Knowing that they lived a distance away in the southern part of Maine, we decided to do a good deed and shovel off their roof. After all, people in Maine are known for this.
Carbon dioxide problem?
Feb 28, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
We are facing a huge carbon dioxide problem. Just think! Billions of people and animals spewing out tons of carbon dioxide every time they exhale and scientists aren’t even paying attention. What should we do? How about taxing breathing to help solve the problem?
Seriously, what is happening to all this carbon dioxide? It is being absorbed by plants and trees which, by using photosynthesis, are converting it back into oxygen and passing it back into the air. Can you beat this for recycling?

We, John and Debbie Howe. are beginning the seventh year of our battle to regain the right to quiet air space at our beautiful farm on McIntire Road. This comprehensive public letter will present all the facts and our story in response to numerous media coverage and the recent letter to the Advertiser Democrat by the Gun Club president, John Conti.
Before 2007, we lived in Waterford for 31 years, pursuing our work of light manufacturing, outdoor activities, part-time farming, raising a family and building an art studio.

Several years ago your newspaper launched the series “Real People,” which weekly recitates interviews with local residents. This series is terrific; it celebrates wonderful people in our small, diverse community.
It informs us of the life experiences of others, allows us to consider their backgrounds and makes us perhaps more open to inclusion of everyone. Though I am not a professional journalist or publisher, it seems to me that this sort of coverage is a cornerstone, a great asset, of community newspapers.
Thank you for support

The Friends of the Gingerbread House gratefully acknowledge the donations made to the Annual Fund during the current fund raising campaign. Thanks very much to all who have contributed. Your support will help us to repair and replace the roof on the Gingerbread House during this calendar year.
We look forward to hearing from others who would like to support the rehabilitation of this important historic structure on Norway’s Main Street.
