Sense of community gone
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
This year the sense of community ceased being a part of the Town of Otisfield's character. The approval of a cell phone tower and the lack of concern for those affected effectively destroyed the true sense of community that once existed.
Shame on us for being called least godly
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
I heard on TV last week that Maine is the least religious state in the union. I asked myself, "Did I contribute to some of the falling away from God?" Oh, yes I did! Everything I do has consequences not just for me but also my children, their children, friends and the community.
I was reading the Bible last week and read Romans 1:24-31. It went along with the way our county is moving. Read it for yourself:
Never volunteer at Stephens
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
I am writing to you to tell everyone in the community never to volunteer at Stephens Memorial Hospital. I was a volunteer for four years at the hospital coffee shop. In the whole time I was there I only had one lady who was very rude and not nice to me.
Support Dennise Whitley
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Dennise Whitley deserves your support in this election and your vote on November 6. She will make an outstanding Senator from our 13th Senate District. Every two years we are given the opportunity to choose our legislators.
At this November’s election those of us who live in Western Maine’s Senate District 13 have the opportunity to elect Dennise Whitley, a life-long Mainer, to Augusta. Her education, experience and record of accomplishments have prepared her to represent us and be an exceptional leader in the Maine Senate.
Will Medicare be there?
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
I have a rare, debilitating disease, the treatments for which are so costly I could never afford them on my own. Luckily, we as a people, decided over 40 years ago to institute the Medicare insurance program: we pay into it when we’re healthy and working, and benefit from it when we are sick.
Thanks to Medicare, I am able to lead a productive life, despite my illness.
Without Medicare I would be in continual pain, and invalid; our modest savings would be wiped out, and we would lose our house to debt in just a few months.
Running for representative
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
My name is Timothy Turner and I am running for the State House of Representatives, Dist. 94. This includes the towns of South Paris, Buckfield, Hartford and Sumner.
I currently live in Buckfield but was born and raised in South Paris. After graduating from Oxford Hills High School in '81 I was employed at Maine Apple Growers in Buckfield. Also, while working there I met my wife, Wendy.
Terry Hayes really cares
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
I had a stroke a few years ago and in trying to refinance my mortgage the bank gave me a really hard time. They said I didn't have a big enough mortgage to make it worth their while and told me I was late on a payment and if I didn't pay up they were going to take my home.
I was only two weeks late because they require a coupon to be sent in with the monthly payment and they never sent it to me. They told me that it would cost $20 to have them take it directly from my account and that would be charged every month.
WMUCC not reaching potential as resource
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
It is such a shame that the Western Maine University and Community College (WMUCC) has never reached its potential as a community resource that its founders had intended when they got the grant money and did the work to bring it into being.
When Brett Doney of the Growth Council first toured the building after its grand opening in 2003, he said it was a shame that there weren't more community resources apparent within the building space.
Stop throwing away taxpayers' money
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
A letter to Rep. Mike Michaud:
What is your position on giving money to the current government in Egypt? We have been giving that nation two billion dollars a year for more than 20 years.
But our treaty obligations ended when the administration of Hosni Mubarak ended. So we are no longer obligated to send them money (money that is borrowed from Red China).
Egypt is now governed by the Muslim Brotherhood which has ties with radical Muslim terrorists. They allowed our embassy to be sacked and our flag burned.
King will serve Maine
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
The increased partisan infighting and bickering dominating our political system has to end. Republicans and Democrats choose to serve their respective parties instead of their constituents.
Now is the time to support an Independent candidate who will serve our state with confidence and determination, and will represent Maine people, instead of a political ideology. I believe that candidate is Angus King.
