For whom do we vote?
May 16, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Regarding the announcements of Paris municipal candidates in the May 2 issue:
Let's make a deal
May 16, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Say it's 10:15 p.m. on a Saturday night. Behind Door Number One is a multi-car crash on the Hebron Road with critical injuries.
Behind Door Number Two is a 911 call from the vicinity of Paris Hill — domestic assault in progress, shots fired.
Behind Door Number Three is an alarm sounded, possible robbery in progress on Main Street in South Paris.
Now, you choose. Which door will you pick?
Agenda 21, what is it?
May 16, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Agenda 21 is, according to the United Nations, the UN’s agenda for land use world wide in the 21st century. It started in 1976 with this statement concerning individual ownership of land:
“Land…cannot be treated as an ordinary asset, controlled by individuals and subject to the pressures and inefficiencies of the market. Private land ownership is also a principle instrument of accumulation and concentration of wealth, therefore contributes to social injustice.” From the report of the 1976 United Nation’s Habitat I Conference.
"Stop the movement"
May 16, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
I am writing on the behalf of my social activist group (Stop the Movement). Last May I attended an annual dance performance put on by the Nevaeh Dance Company. And I have to say I was appalled by their so called “art.” During the performance, my 14-year-old son “Eugene Card” and I witnessed out of control funky dancing, a racy burlesque number preformed by grandmothers! And a third piece in which three young men try to seduce the audience with sex and candy! (Think about the children and the educational system!)
Thank you, Rotary Club of Oxford Hills
May 16, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
For 13 years the generous, and fun to be with, members of the Rotary Club of Oxford Hills have sponsored the Student of the Month Program at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Each month, a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior share breakfast and song with Rotary Club members. It is a joyous celebration of the exceptional accomplishments of 28 fabulous students each year.
Ag-Gag Laws and Freedom of the Press
May 09, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
“Despicable, unconstitutional, ridiculous, immature, idiotic and mendacious.” And that’s just how Tennessee newspapers characterized the state’s “ag-gag” bill now awaiting governor’s signature.
Don't cut Senior programs
May 09, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
With all the problems that older adults and challenged individuals in this state face, it is the job of our legislators to protect Maine’s most vulnerable populations. I am fully aware that this is a tough economy, but it is even tougher when one is frail, elderly, alone and in pain. Many seniors in Maine have been watching and are continuing to watch as their hard-earned Social Security benefits are debated over and over again in Washington. Any savings many at-risk Mainers may have had are long-gone in the face of soaring costs for utilities and food.
Keep Paris Police
May 09, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
For years the Paris Police Department has been in South Paris, and I for one want to to stay there. The people in Paris want the police to stay put.
They are very nice policemen. They have to go to accidents, summer and winter, etc. We do not want the Sheriff's Department to take over.
I will vote for the Paris Police to stay put. People in town know about the Paris Police Department and they've known them for years.
Keep Paris Police where they belong — in Paris.

Remembering
May 09, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
The recent bombings in Boston will not be forgotten for a long, long time. The terror, the horrendous injuries received by so many, the three people who were killed plus the policeman who also died. Remembering how so many people ran to help the injured. The memorials set up on Boylston Street and the many people who stopped by to say prayers, to leave flowers or other mementos as a way to help with their own healing.
Do we really know what is going on?
May 09, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Paris leadership gives the impression that they don't know what is going on in our office. Headlines state "Paris out of money, faces financial crisis. We have no money, we can't make payroll." A few days later in the board meetings you find that it is not so bad. We actually have not had to use tax money. Then again we hear "account off by 2.1 million." The following week — "no problems, we are on track."
