  • Heart failure series slated

    NORWAY — Several MaineHealth hospitals are joining forces with the MaineHealth Learning Resource Center to offer an educational class open to the public entitled, “The Beat Goes On.” This series will teach skills to help individuals manage their condition or connect with others who have heart failure. It will take place on Thursdays from April 25 to May 23, 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Falmouth, Norway, Belfast and Biddeford.

    “The Beat Goes On” is for those patients who can answer yes to these questions:

    • Do you have Heart Failure?

    WINNERS — Three young ladies from West Paris competed in the Spring Sparkle and Shine Pageant in Poland. The girls, coached by Lisa Floster, from left, Sophie Green, 6,  Destiny Robinson, 11 and Prentiss Kurtz, 15.  All were crowned princesses and Sophie also won the essay contest, Destiny won a beauty certificate and Prentiss won a "first impression" award.  The pageants are held four times a year and can be found on facebook Sparkle and Shine Confidence Pageants.

  • Roadside cleanup set in Waterford

    WATERFORD — The Town of Waterford will be holding a Roadside Clean-Up Event on Saturday, April 20, coordinated by the Transfer Station Committee and Parks Committee.

    Participants will gather at the Waterford Town Office at 9 a.m., grab trash bags and head out to pick up trash along the roadside (wear bright colored clothing and wear gloves!). Afterward, at noon, participants will gather back at the Town Office for refreshments, contests and prizes.

  • Conifer/evergreen sale scheduled

    AREA — The Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District will be accepting orders for Fraser Fir, Colorado Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, White Spruce, Canadian Hemlock and White Pine until April 30.

    All trees are sold as bare root, transplant seedlings and come in bundles of 10. Evergreens are noted for being ornamental, providing timber, planting windbreaks and add beauty and color to your landscape year-round. In addition, some are grown for use as Christmas trees.

    This metal anchor, two feet by 10 inches in size, and weighing 44 pounds, was discovered by resident Duane Richardson during the summer of 1989 in the water about 10 feet offshore between Pineholm Road, and at the time, Richardson Camp on fire lane 9 off the Greenwood Road, on Lake Pennessewassee in Norway.

  • Teal Ribbon Run/Walk planned

    NORWAY — REACH, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services serving Oxford County and the towns of Bridgton and Harrison, is energized to be holding their first first Teal Ribbon Run/Walk 5K on Saturday, April 27 (rain date Sunday, April 28).

    Sponsored by Norway Savings Bank, this exciting event will take place on the 5K trail located at the Roberts Frost Preserve in Norway. This preserve is part of Western Maine Foothills Trust with recreational trails and spectacular views.

  • Library announces cryptogram winner

    PARIS — Congratulations to Reginald Jack of South Paris for winning the $5 prize for participating in Paris Public Library's March Cryptogram Challenge.

    April's cryptograms are available at the library's front desk. Completed puzzles need to be in on or before April 30 for the drawing.
