Connecting with young people through social media networks, local events and more, the Young & Free Maine Spokester will continue to develop entertaining educational content, tips and tools to help members of Generation Y manage their day-to-day lives and finances.
Annual Hartford plant sale on May 11

Perennials, annuals, houseplants, seedlings and bulbs will all be available at the Hartford Heritage Society Plant Sale on Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Held at the J. & O. Irish Museum on Main Street (Route 140) in Hartford Center, the sale will include plants from gardeners throughout the area, as well as donations from local nurseries. Add an extra few for Mother’s Day.
Swingin' Bears plan dance on May 11
May 02, 2013 12:00 amPARIS — The Swingin' Bears Square Dance Club announces that on Saturday, May 11, from 7-10 p.m., the club caller, Ray Hilton of Saco, will call for the Mainstream/Plus square dance and Bernie Porter of Hookset, NH will cue for the Round Dancing. The dance will be held as usual in the cafeteria at Oxford Hills Middle School, 100 Pine St. in South Paris.
On Saturday, June 15 the dance will feature Walt Bull, caller, and Sandra Burke, Cuer, and Saturday, July 13 will be the Ice Cream Social with Marty Vanwart, caller, and Bernie Porter, cuer.

HARRISON — The Harrison Lions Club is sponsoring a Texas Hold'Em Tournament on Saturday, May 4, at the VFW Hall, 176 Waterford Road in Harrison. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., the start time is 1 p.m. and the end time is 6 p.m. The $55 entry fee includes the stipend for the State license fee. Food and refreshments will be available at this BYOB event. This is limited to 100 players so come and have some fun. Proceeds will be used to provide services that the Lions Club renders to the community.
Ricker Library's 50th anniversary series continues
May 02, 2013 12:00 amPOLAND — The fifth presentation of Ricker Memorial Library's year-long series will be Bill Berlinghoff on guitar and banjo while singing Tennessee mountain music, folk music from the '50s and '60s, Coffee House topical songs and rowdy Irish tunes. There will also be plenty of opportunity to just sing along with him. Mr. Berlinghoff has enjoyed a 45-year career appearing in most states along the east coast. He has also entertained in Colorado and Oregon. Try not to miss this event! Admission is free.

The 5K starts at 9 a.m. and the kids' run/walk at 8:30 a.m. The cost for the 5K is $20 for advance online registration which closes at 4 p.m. on May 3. To register go to www.running4free.com. Same day registration is $25 and opens at 7:30 a.m. T-shirts will also be available for $10.
