  • Benefit supper planned

    HARRISON — On Saturday, January 29, at 5 p.m. at the Harrison VFW a benefit supper will be held for Jacob "Jake" Hill.

    The cost will be $5 per person, all ages. The menu will include beans, hot dogs, coleslaw, brown bread, rolls and pie.

  • Jazzin' it up

    JOINT IS JUMPIN' — The OHCHS Jazz Band, under the direction of Kyle Jordan, kept the audience jiving during the Concert & Jazz Band Winter Concert on Thursday in the newly named Mark S. Eastman Auditorium.

  • FMH among nation's most wired hospitals

    FARMINGTON -- Franklin Memorial Hospital has again been named as one of 154 of the nation’s most wired hospitals according to the results of the 2012 Most Wired Survey Benchmarking Study released today in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association (AHA).
    According to the study, the nation’s Most Wired hospitals are leveraging the adoption and use of health information technology (IT) to improve performance in a number of areas.
  • 'Let it snow' supper set at Casco church

    CASCO — Casco Village Church United Church of Christ invites the public to its first Saturday Night "Let It Snow" Supper of 2011.

    Enjoy traditional fare: beans and franks, casseroles and salads, and of course homemade pies. All meals include rolls and beverages for only $7 for adults and $4 for children under 10 - or bring the whole family for only $20.

    Join in on Route 121 in Casco Village on Saturday, January 29, from 5 to 6 p.m.

  • Make puppets at the Norway library

    NORWAY — The Norway Memorial Library will be holding a puppet-making workshop on Tuesday, January 25, from 3:15-4:45 p.m.

    Participants will each make two different types of puppets; one sock puppet and one paper bag puppet. Following the puppet making the group will act out a short skit using its new props.

    Parents are invited to attend at 4:30 p.m. to watch the performance. For more information or to register children for this program please call the Norway Memorial Library at 743-5309 x4.

  • Embroidery seminar slated

    PORTLAND — Pining to Stitch, The New England Regional Seminar of The Embroiderers Guild of America, Inc. will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 15, 16 and 17, at the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland.

  • Memoir discussions set at Norway library

    NORWAY — On Thursday, February 17, at 6:30 p.m. the library will return to a discussion of memoirs by American writers with "Wait Till Next Year" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Goodwin is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian. She is best known for her books "No Ordinary Time" and "Team of Rivals." "Wait Till Next Year" is her memoir telling of her years growing up in 1950s Brooklyn, NY when baseball truly was the national pastime.

  • Library offers memoir writing workshop

    NORWAY — Norway Memorial Library is currently taking registrations for "Memoir Boot Camp: Working Through the Perils and Pitfalls of Personal Narrative" with Elizabeth Peavey on Saturday, February 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and Saturday, March 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

  • Grandparents class planned

    BRIDGTON — The Special Delivery Family Birthing Center at Bridgton Hospital is offering a new course on newborn care, geared towards new and ‘to-be’ grandparents. The free class will be held Saturday, February 12, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the hospital.

    When it comes to newborn care, much has changed in the last two to three decades. This class will give all grandparents the opportunity to talk with trained professionals about birthing and parenting changes through the generations.
