  • Basic pistol course planned in Mason Twp.

    MASON TWP — An NRA Basic Pistol Course will be held Sunday, March 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Pooh Corner Farm, 436 Bog Road in Mason Twp. Cost is $125 per student (includes lunch, books, the use of firearms and ammunition). The shooting portion will be held indoors. Instructors are Joshua White and Alan Coffin.

    This course meets the State of Maine concealed weapon permit requirements as well as the requirements for obtaining a State of Florida concealed weapon permit.

  • Supper to benefit couple

    OXFORD — A benefit supper for Randy and Tonya Young will be held Saturday, February 5 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church on Poplar St. in Oxford.

    The meal will consist of beans, assorted casseroles, hot dogs, brown bread, biscuits, cole slaw, and your choice from a variety of pies and beverages. The cost of the meal is $7 for adults and $3.50 for kids 12 and under.

  • Get child safety seats inspected

    NORWAY — The Family Birthplace at Stephens Memorial Hospital (SMH) urges parents and caregivers to make time on Saturday, February 5 to find out if your child’s car seat is installed correctly and your child is safely buckled up. Stephens Memorial Hospital, in conjunction with Maine Families and the Norway Fire Department, will be hosting a Free Car Seat Safety Event with certified technicians available to provide free hands-on child safety seat inspections and advice from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Norway Fire Station on Beal St. in Norway.

  • First Friday soup supper planned in Norway

    NORWAY — A chili, chowder, soup and stew supper, with take out available, will be held on Friday, February 4, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Second Congregational Church, UCC, 205 Main St. in Norway. This is the third in a series of "First Friday Fantastic Family Feasts." The public is invited to join in for a delicious dinner, fellowship and a great opportunity to "make a difference" in the local community.

  • SMH Family Birthplace offers Infant CPR

    NORWAY — The Family Birthplace at Stephens Memorial Hospital is excited to announce that they are offering Infant CPR classes. These classes are helpful to both new and experienced parents.

    The next class will be held on Saturday, March 12 from 8:30 – 10 a.m. in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Building at the hospital. Classes are offered for $10 per person.

  • Supper to help victims

    PARIS — There will be a bean supper to benefit the victims of the South Paris Thanksgiving Day fire at the First Congregational Church, 17 East Main Street on Friday, January 28 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. Cost is $7, adults and $3 for shildren.

    Sammie Bean, Nick Merrill and their baby Andrina lost everything in the fire that made headlines last month twhen a passing hunter sounded the alarm allowing them to escape unharmed.

  • French classes plan fundraisers

    OXFORD HILLS — Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School French classes are trying to raise $9,000 for a trip to Montreal, Canada. They are planning on 27 to 30 participating French class students. The estimated cost is $505 per student.

    They are raising the funds to make the trip affordable for all students who want to go. Anyone wishing to donate can send a check or money order to Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, c/o French Club Montreal Trip, 256 Main Street, South Paris, ME 04281.

  • MEOC plans February workshops

    SOUTH PARIS — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will be hosting free workshops entitled "Essentials of College Planning" at the South Paris Career Center, 232 Main Street in South Paris on Monday, February 7 and 28 at 10 a.m.

    MEOC is funded entirely by the U.S. Department of Education. The program helps qualified adults make the transition towards a college education. MEOC, which is housed at the University of Maine, provides assistance to adults living in Maine and helps them go to whichever college or university they choose.
