  • Roast beef supper planned in McFalls

    MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Historical Society will be holding its "Almost Famous Roast Beef Community Supper" on Saturday, February 5 at Congregational Hall, 64 Elm Street in Mechanic Falls from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

  • West Paris Library plans meeting

    WEST PARIS — The Friends of the West Paris Library will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9 at the library. Anyone interested in working with a dynamic and fun group to support this wonderful community library is welcome to attend.

  • Super Bowl Skate Fest planned

    BRIDGTON — Harrison Recreation and the Harrison Youth Boosters present 2011 Super Bowl Skate Fest at the Bridgton Academy Ice Arena on Sunday, February 6 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. This event is free for all Harrison residents.

    Children ages eight and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and helmets are highly recommended.

    Come join the fun before the kickoff. There will be hot dogs, chili, mac n’ cheese, brownies and beverages.

    Assorted size skates will be available. Skate sharpening is $4 for hockey skates and $5 for figure skates.

  • Calling all chili makers in Oxford

    OXFORD — Oxford Recreation is hosting a Chili Challenge on Saturday, February 19 from 12-1 p.m. at the Oxford Station House Community Center. Organizers are looking for residents of Oxford to come forward and show why they feel their chili is the best in town. Please preregister by February 9 by calling 539-4563.

    Hopefully this gets people out and about through this cold season to mingle, sample, and vote on who they feel is the best chili maker in Oxford.

    A donation will be requested at the door to come in and vote on who you feel should win the blue ribbon.

  • Art donations for senior fundraiser

    LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus is seeking donations from artists for the second annual ChocoLArt fundraiser coming up on March 20.

    The event will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn from 2 to 5 p.m. This event combines chocolate tasting with a silent art auction and the proceeds benefit SeniorsPlus Meals on Wheels and other programs.

    SeniorsPlus is a charitable organization serving older adults and adults with disabilities in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford Counties. Tickets for ChocoLArt are $35 and are on sale now.

  • Dates for CRP general signup announced

    SOUTH PARIS — Donovan Todd III, Executive Director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency in Maine, recently announced Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has set general signup for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) to begin on March 14, and continue through April 15. During the signup period, farmers and ranchers may offer eligible land for CRP's competitive general signup at their county Farm Service Agency (FSA) office.

  • Diabetes fair slated in Lewiston

    LEWISTON/AUBURN — 23.6 million children and adults in the United States - 7.8 percent of the population - have diabetes. It is linked to many other health issues like heart disease, stroke, blindness and kidney disease, and costs billions of dollars each year to manage. The good news is there are ways to manage diabetes and lots of local resources to help. On Tuesday, February 15, from 1–4 p.m., at Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library there will be a free event with experts, patients and educators sharing tips and information to help you live well with diabetes.

  • Legion to hold Valentine fun time

    SOUTH PARIS — A Valentine fun time will be held on Saturday, February 5, at the South Paris Legion Hall on Church Street. A chicken pie supper will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. and a dance with the Jones Band starts at 6:30 p.m. The cost for the supper is $7 and $5 for the dance.

    The Jones Band will also be playing at the Legion Hall on Saturdays, February 12, 19 and 26, from 7 to 10 p.m. The cost is $5 and the lunch counter will be open.

  • Call to crafters

    RAYMOND — A craft fair is set for Saturday, March 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jordan Small Middle School, 423 Webbs Mills Road (Rt. 85) in Raymond.

    Organizers are currently accepting artist, craft and vendor applications for this event. The cost to participate is $25. Table rental is an additional $10. This is a fundraiser for the Class of 2011 year end celebration.
