  • 100-year-old’s secret to longevity

    BIRTHDAY GIRL — Esther Miller celebrated her 100th birthday on February 1. Her day was full of parties, visitors, cards and flowers, but to her it was just another day.

  • Roast pork supper rescheduled

    SOUTH PARIS — A pork roast supper rescheduled from February 5, will be held Saturday, February 12, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Deering Memorial United Methodist Church on 39 Main Street in South Paris. The cost will be $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. The supper will feature roast loin of pork with chocolate fudge brownies with ice cream for dessert.

    There is ample parking behind the library and town office.

    LEWISTON — “Does Your Heart Go Pit-a-Pat?” will be the topic of two Central Maine Medical Center Accenting Your Health presentations set for February.

    OUTSTANDING — George Weston, left, longtime livestock superintendent at Fryeburg Fair, was honored with the Outstanding Organizer Award at the 99th annual banquet of the Maine Association of Agricultural Fairs Saturday at the Holiday Inn By The Bay in Portland. Presenting the award was Director David Byras Sr. of Litchfield Fair.

    AREA – President Barack Obama has proclaimed February as National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. As the local sexual assault crisis center, REACH would like to share the core theme of the Proclamation.

    In his Proclamation, President Obama outlines the need for and supports efforts in communities, schools and families to empower young people to develop healthy relationships throughout their lives and to engage in activities that prevent and respond to teen dating violence.

  • French Club plans fundraisers

    OXFORD HILLS — Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School French classes are trying to raise $9,000 for a trip to Montreal, Canada in March. They are planning on 27 to 30 participating French class students.

    The French Club is raising the funds to make the trip affordable for all students who want to go. Anyone wishing to donate can send a check or money order to Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, c/o French Club Montreal Trip, 256 Main Street, South Paris, ME 04281.

    SNOW HORSE — Nancy Hohmann’s lovely 24-year-old mare Mistel, who lives on Crockett Ridge Road in Norway,  seems not to be bothered by the snowy weather last week.

  • Diabetes group to meet

    NORWAY — There will be a meeting of the Diabetes Support Group at Stephens Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, February 16, from 6-7 p.m. in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Building.
