  • Red Cross blood drives set for March

    AREA — The American Red Cross, Northern New England Blood Services Region, will hold blood drives in cities and towns throughout Maine. All eligible and new blood donors are encouraged to give blood. Donors are needed every day to make sure there is an adequate blood supply for patients in need.

  • Historical society raises money to acquire microfilm

    BETHEL — Thanks to the generosity of Bethel Historical Society life member Christopher Hovey of Falmouth, plus two anonymous donors, the Society has begun to acquire 26 rolls of microfilm containing issues of the Portland Transcript newspaper dating between April 1837 and March 1899.   • Farm Fair to be held in Norway

    NORWAY — A Farm Fair will be held Saturday and Sunday, February 26 and 27, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. both days at Fare Share Commons, 445 Main St. in Norway. Meet your local farmers and producers, get information, try samples, just hang out, or buy a CSA Share (Community Supported Agriculture) from one of eight local farmers, producers, or other enterprises.

  • Tax return help for Oxford Hills

    OXFORD — Free tax return help for households with under $50,000 income is available in the Oxford Hills starting Saturday, February 12 through the end of March. This program is made possible by the new Oxford County Cash Coalition, comprised of organizations including the United Way of Oxford County, Community Concepts, Region 9 Adult Education, Healthy Oxford Hills, the IRS, University of Southern Maine, AARP, and is funded through small grants. The tax preparers are volunteers trained by the IRS.

  • Raising a healthy child seminar set

    NORWAY — The MaineHealth Learning Resource Center at Stephens Memorial Hospital (SMH) presents Dr. Kate Herlihy from Western Maine Pediatrics speaking on “Raising a Healthy Child.” The seminar will be held on Thursday, March 3, from 5:30–7 p.m. in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Building in Norway. There is no cost for the presentation.

    Dr. Herlihy will be discussing how to keep your child active and eating healthy. Learn how to help your child develop healthy habits for life.

  • Strong library has programs and speakers

    With winter a fading memory, the Strong Public Library is announcing several new spring and summer programs.A Pre-School Story Time series, from 10:30 – 11 a. m., starts on Thursday, April 12, and will continue for the next four weeks.
    With each story, children will get a snack and make a craft to take home. Also beginning on April 12, the library will offer Senior Moments (ages 50 and up), from 11 a. m. – 12 p.m.
  • Commissioners approve adult ed increase

    FARMINGTON - The county commissioners met on Tuesday afternoon to begin their run through of the county budget.
    Controversy broke out over the Western Maine Community Action assessment. Represented by Fen Fowler, he asked that the county consider approving a $16,500 increase.
    Fowler insisted that the county's contribution was “much greener” than that of the federal and state.
