  • Cats need a ride

    Responsible Pet Care is looking for a couple of reliable people to volunteer to drive cats for their spay and neuter appointments in Norway and Bethel.

    This requires a vehicle that can fit three or four carriers. Cats leave the shelter in the morning and are returned in the last afternoon.

    Anyone interested in volunteering please contact the shelter manager, Lucille, at 743-8679.

  • Saturday supper planned in Casco

    CASCO — The Casco Village Church United Church of Christ is having another fantastic Saturday night supper.

    Enjoy all the favorite traditional beans and casseroles, but with an Italian "twist."  Join in on Saturday, February 26 from 5 to 6 p.m.

    Only $7 for adults, $4 for children under 10, and $20 max for families with young children - and that includes bread, salad, beverage and dessert (homemade pies, of course).

    So for the best Saturday night supper around, come to the Village - 941 Meadow Road (Route 121) in Casco.

    MECHANIC FALLS — The Boghooters Snowmobile Club of Mechanic Falls hosted the second annual Chili & Chowda Cookoff at the Elm Street School in Mechanic Falls recently.

  • Collaborative hires network facilitator

    BETHEL — The Bethel Area Nonprofit Collaborative (BANC) achieved a large stride ahead in its development this month by hiring a network facilitator. Jessie Seymour Perkins will serve to enhance and build meaningful connections among Greater Bethel Area nonprofit organizations by facilitating collaboration through activities, communications, fundraising and much more.

  • Energy Fair planned in Mechanic Falls

    MECHANIC FALLS — An Energy Fair is scheduled for Saturday, March 5 in the municipal gym in Mechanic Falls from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    The Energy Fair, sponsored by the Mechanic Falls Energy Committee is part of the education component required of a grant recently received by the Town from Efficiency Maine. There will be representatives with educational materials from Efficiency Maine, Community Concepts, Goulet Home Inspection Services, Revision Energy, University of Maine Collaborative Extension, Sustainable Collaboration Works, and the Mechanic Falls Public Library.

  • Scouts at the State House

    SCOUTS WELCOMED — Members of Boy Scout Troop 196 of Oxford gather in the rotunda in the State House on February 17, along with their troop leaders. The Scouts served as honorary pages at the State House and had the opportunity to deliver messages and documents to members in the House Chamber. Rep. Jim Hamper gave the boys a brief tour of the State House before the start of the day’s session.   • Buckfield Masons plan supper

    BUCKFIELD — A public supper will be held Saturday, February 26, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Masonic Hall in Buckfield.

    Donations will be accepted. The menu will be spaghetti, meatballs or vegetarian sauce, tossed salad, rolls, frosted cake and beverages.

    Proceeds will benefit the new septic system recently installed at the site.

    BETHEL — A wide variety of topics are to be discussed during the 2011 Bethel Historical Society Lecture Series. Lectures are among the many program offerings presented each year by the Society to advance an understanding of and greater appreciation for the local and regional past - with a particular focus on western Maine and the White Mountain region of Maine and New Hampshire.
