  • Maple Sugaring history offered

    LIVERMORE — In celebration of Maine Maple Sunday, March 27, the Washburn-Norlands Living History Center will serve the first pancake breakfast in the reconstructed Farmers’ Cottage, a replica of the original 1867 historic building, which was destroyed by fire in 2008. V

    isitors can help tap trees and collect sap. Norlands’ historic farmer will demonstrate boiling sap into syrup using a cast iron kettle over an open fire. Bring your snowshoes or sleds and enjoy the 445 acres at this National Historic Site and at the neighboring  Boothby Farm.

  • Consortium offers workshop for educators

    PARIS – On March 17, KIDS (kids involved doing service-learning) Consortium is offering a free Project Citizen workshop for grades five to 12 educators. Host for this 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. workshop is Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Training will take place at Western Maine Community College Center, 232 Main Street, South Paris. Pre-registration is required at www.kidsconsortium.org.

  • Head Custodians' auction planned

    PARIS — The annual SAD 17 Head Custodians Chinese Auction is Saturday, March 5 in the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School cafeteria. It is their largest fundraiser and the funds are for scholarships the organization awards to any student furthering their education. Approximately $35,000 has been awarded in scholarships.

  • Malms will speak at library

    BRYANT POND — Randy and Brenda Malm will be the guest speakers at the Whitman Memorial Library in Bryant Pond on Thursday, March 10, at 2 p.m.

    The Malms are residents of Woodstock and are in the business of Wood Turning and Creative Pet Beds. The program is open to the public at no charge and light refreshments will be served.

  • Swingin' Bears schedule dance

    PARIS — Swingin' Bears Square Dance Club is having its March dance Saturday, March 12 with Al Hipkins calling Mainstream and Plus levels of square dancing and Carol Stewart cueing the round dancing from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Oxford Hills Middle School, 100 Pine St. 

    Cost is $6 per person; non-dancers are welcome at no charge. There will be refreshments, door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. For more information, call 577-6893 in South Paris, 647-2008 in Bridgton or 782-4050 in Auburn.

  • McFalls society plans supper

    MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Historical Society will be holding its "Almost Famous Roast Beef Community Supper" on Saturday, March 5 at Congregational Hall, 64 Elm Street in Mechanic Falls from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

    The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. In addition to the main course of roast beef, mashed potatoes and vegetables, the supper will also include a turkey pot pie. Dan Davis of Mechanic Falls donated the turkey. Harvest Hill Farms and Future Foods contributed to the meal.

  • Boiled dinner scheduled

    HEBRON — The Hebron Community Baptist Church will be serving the last of its famous New England boiled dinners of this winter season on Saturday, March 5 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the church on Station road in Hebron.

    The menu includes boiled ham, potatoes, turnip, onions, carrots, beets, cabbage and to top it all off, homemade pies and ice cream. If it should be storming on Saturday, contact Marion at 966-2663 or the church at 966-2694.
