    NORWAY — There will be a meeting of the Diabetes Support Group at Stephens Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, March 16, from 6-7 p.m. in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Building.

  • Poland Historical plans meeting

    POLAND — The Poland Historical Society will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, March 16 at 7 p.m. at the District #22 School House along Route 26. This will be the first Wednesday night meeting of the year. David Tedford will present a fascinating program on the history of the Summit Spring Hotel. This will be a great talk for those interested in learning more about the famous Summit Springs Hotel of Poland. Anyone who has Summit Spring Hotel memorabilia is welcome to bring it. There will be a display table of pictures and other items.

  • Wildlife biologist to speak

    POLAND — Deborah Perkins has studied grizzly bears in Alaska and black bears in Maine. She has also studied bears in Yellowstone, New Mexico and Tennessee. Perkins, a wildlife biologist, will present a slide show and talk about some of her bear experiences at the next Person to Person Potluck/Program, sponsored by Friends of Ricker Library. She will show photographs, taken in stunning Katmai National Park, of coastal brown bears. She will talk about bear behavior and biology, as well as about the challenges of bear conservation.

  • Library closed for renovations

    WATERFORD — The Waterford Library will be closed for renovations March 21 through April 2. Books borrowed in March will not be due until the library reopens. Patrons are asked not to return books for the two weeks that the library is closed.

    The library will gratefully accept donations for the summer book sale after the library reopens in April. Please do not bring book donations to the library until then.

  • Potluck supper planned

    WEST PARIS — There will be a Community Potluck Supper and Game Night at the First Universalist Church in West Paris on Friday, March 18, at 5:30 p.m.

    There is no charge; just bring a dish to share and enjoy the fun, fellowship and good food. Bring a favorite game if you wish. You do not have to be a member of the church to attend.

  • St. Patrick's dinner set in Rumford

  • Photography as story

    NORWAY — On Thursday March 31, at 6:30 p.m., Norway Memorial Library will present "Beyond the Snapshot: Using Photography to Tell a Story," a talk by Scott Vlaun. This talk is part of the library's "Memoir: Lives & Stories" programming that began in October.

    Scott will discuss some of the ways photography is used to tell stories, incorporate images in his discussion, and share thoughts and examples about the ways images are used alone or in combination with words to chronicle events and share experiences.

  • Legion to hold yard sale

    The lunch counter will be open and there will be 50/50 tickets.

  • Colon cancer screening event at SMH

    NORWAY — The MaineHealth Learning Resource Center at Stephens Memorial Hospital (SMH) offers Robert Kahn, M.D. of Western Maine Surgery speaking about “Colon Cancer Screening: Which Test is Best?” to be held on Wednesday, March 30, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The program will be held in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Building, part of Stephens Memorial Hospital, Norway. Dinner will be provided; there is no cost for the presentation.
