  • BRAG receives major league support

    BRIDGTON —  The Bridgton Recreation Advancement Group (BRAG) is happy to announce it has received a $5000 grant from the Major League Baseball Players Trust, to aid in the construction of the community recreation complex on BRAG Way.

    Bridgton resident and MLB pitcher Dave Bush (husband of BRAG board member Carrie Bush) applied for this grant on the group's behalf.

  • Norlands to host grand opening

    LIVERMORE — Everyone is invited to the Grand Opening Celebration at “The Norlands,” Maine’s oldest living history farm and the historic home of the remarkable Washburn family. Just shy of three years ago, the 19th century barn and attached “Farmers Cottage” burned to the ground in an accidental fire; but now the Norlands is rising from the ashes.

  • Easter event planned

    SOUTH PARIS — The Paris Public Library is hosting an Easter Event day on Saturday, April 16, from 1 to 3 p.m. All participants in the event will have an opportunity to make crafts, such as Easter Bunny magnets, and will also participate in an Easter Egg hunt. Each child attending will receive their own basket for plastic eggs and a few pieces of candy. The event is completely free for anyone in the Oxford Hills community.

    Relay for Life

    NORWAY — A Full Moon Madness fundraiser for the Relay For Life of Oxford Hills will be held on Saturday, March 19, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Trolley Restaurant, located at 237 Main Street in Norway. Eat, socialize, play Minute To Win It games and win prizes.   This event is coordinated by the Relay For Life KeyBank Team in conjunction with Federal Distributors, Inc. and the Trolley Restaurant. Come join in and have fun. A portion of all of the sales will be donated to the Relay For Life KeyBank Team.

  • Daffodil Days begin in Oxford County

    AREA — The American Cancer Society’s 33rd annual Daffodil Days begin the week of March 15 with more than 150,000 fresh-cut daffodils arriving in Maine. If you forgot to pre-order your flowers, you can still help support the American Cancer Society and paint your community yellow. Local volunteers will be selling bouquets, potted plants, and this year’s limited Edition Boyd’s Bear, Liv N. Hope, at various locations in Oxford County.

  • Gardening workshop set

    AREA — Everyone should have the satisfaction of growing some of their own food. There is nothing quite like the fresh taste of food from the garden. Oxford County Cooperative Extension is offering a two-part workshop for beginning gardeners on how to grow a salad garden.

    The workshop is being offered at three locations - at the Harrison Library on Monday and Thursday, April 11 and 14; at the Bridgton Community Center on Tuesdays, April 12 and 19 and at the Extension office in South Paris on Wednesdays, April 20 and 27. All workshops run from 6 to 8 p.m. 

  • AHCH announces training program

    LEWISTON — Individuals interested in making a lasting difference in the lives of others are encouraged to join Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice to become Bereavement Volunteers for grieving loved ones. A 15-hour training class is scheduled to begin on Thursday, March 31. The class will be held on Monday and Thursday afternoons at the AHCH Office, 15 Strawberry Avenue in Lewiston.

  • Bowl for Kids urged

    SOUTH PARIS — The Big Brothers Big Sisters Program of Oxford County is appealing to the community to support Bowl for Kids’ Sake, the mentoring program’s largest annual fundraiser. Bowl For Kids’ Sake will be held on Saturday, April 2 at Hobb’s Lucky Lanes in South Paris. Bowlers will raise pledge money to support Big Brothers Big Sisters. The event is organized to be like a big “Thank You” party for all who participate.
