  • Make a book at the library

    NORWAY — The Norway Memorial Library Children’s Room will be celebrating National Library Week by hosting a Make a Book Workshop. Join Anna Gordon, the Children’s Coordinator, on Wednesday, April 13 from 3:15-4:30 p.m. as she teaches children that books come in all shapes and sizes. Preregistration is required since space is limited. If your child would like to attend this workshop, or for more information, please call the library at 743-5309 ext 4 to sign up.

  • Library fundraiser

    SOUTH PARIS — Fundraising for the Paris Public Library's air conditioning has begun, with almost $800 raised in the first week. Contributions may be made to the library in a variety of ways, including purchasing chances, buying fan placards, or donating cans and bottles.

  • TeenTalk sponsors contest

    AREA — Maine Teen Talk wants teen's ideas for a commercial contest. Submit an original one-minute script or clip to aryan@best4teens.org or mail to: MaineTeenTalk, 1321 Washington Ave. Suite 302, Portland, ME 04103. Please include name, age, e-mail, and a brief description with the submission. The script or video clip should show strategies from the MaineTeenTalk program.

  • AHCH announces community grief support

    LEWISTON — Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice (AHCH) is offering several programs this spring to provide information and support to children and adults in central and western Maine grieving the death of a loved one.

    Program sessions help participants understand the grief process, share feelings and experiences and find hope and comfort. All programs are led by trained bereavement volunteers and/or professional grief facilitators and are offered at no cost to participants.

  • Young artists

    ON DISPLAY — The art work of Silas Gordon, 10, and Tristyn Thorpe, 9, is currently on display at the Paris Public Library for community viewing. These talented young artists' drawings, paintings, and multi-media art, a combination of approximately 20 pictures, will be will be on display upstairs and in the Juvenile Fiction Room, throughout the month of April. Any child, with parental approval, who wishes to have their art displayed for the month of May can call Billie Lou Damon at the Paris Public Library on Monday or Tuesday at 743-6994.

  • Lovell's Brooking wins scholarship

    AREA — On March 6, Distinguished Young Women of Maine, formerly Maine’s Junior Miss Scholarship Program, selected Lauren Brooking of Lovell as the Distinguished Young Woman of Maine for 2011.

    Brooking won $700 in cash scholarships and will travel to Mobile, AL to participate in the 54th National Finals where she will be eligible for more scholarships.

  • Oxford Boy Scouts check wood duck nesting boxes

Back, are William Burns, Al Lewis and Joel Haslett. POLAND — Oxford Boy Scout Troop #196 checked and cleaned wood duck nesting boxes on Tripp Lake on Sunday, March 13. The scouts built and sponsored four boxes three years ago. They have taken care of the boxes yearly since. The Scouts work with Norway-Paris Fish & Game Association member Fern Bosse.

  • Maple Friday

    SYRUP PREVIEW – Children from Annette’s Daycare in Auburn were asked by John and Sharon Bergeron, owners of Cabane A Sucre Bergen in Hebron, to visit their sugar shack. Kids and parents were all treated to a Maple Syrup Friday. Pictured, Alexis Martin, Jason Pelchat, Patrick Anthoine, Gavin Doughty, Ayla Pelchat and Amy Pelchat.

  • Blood drives set for April

    LOCAL — The American Red Cross will be holding local blood drives at the following locations in the month of April:

    April 4 — Lake Region High School on 1877 Roosevelt Trail in Naples, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    April 13 — Whittier Middle School on 1457 Maine Street in Poland, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    April 20 — Masonic Hall on Harrison Road in Bridgton, from 1 to 6 p.m.

    April 21 — Western Maine Veterans’ Home on 477 High Street in South Paris, from 2 to 7 p.m.

  • No foolin' a three-pie supper

    NORWAY — A three pie supper - pizza pie, whoopie pie and blueberry pie - will be held on Friday, April 1, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Second Congregational Church, UCC, 205 Main St. in Norway. This is the fourth in their series of "First Friday Fantastic Feasts." The public is invited and encouraged to join in the fun. Those attending will be voting on the Official Maine dessert: either whoopie pie or blueberry pie. Results will be sent to Augusta. Take out will be available.
