  • Oxford Fire and Rescue nabs grant

    OXFORD — U.S. Senator Susan Collins announced that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded $43,143 in grant funding to the Oxford Fire and Rescue Department. The funding is provided through the "Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program," or FIRE Act.

  • Scouts celebrate

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY — West Paris Girl Scout Troops 2106 and 1350 and Daisies held a birthday party on March 15 to celebrate 99 years of Girl Scouting. The Junior troop 1350 organized the activities for the afternoon around the theme of Clowning Around. They had a bean bag toss, hula hoop contest, peanut relay, making clown mask and hats. They enjoyed a circus theme birthday cake made by Junior Girl Scout, Krissy Wilson. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and library workers and to promote library use. All types of libraries - public, school, academic and special - participate.

They offered a Pool Tournament for two age groups, a foosball tournament as well as championships with selected board games and card games.   • McLaughlin Garden: All can help

    SOUTH PARIS — As the McLaughlin Garden begins to awaken from its winter sleep, Saturdays in April have been scheduled as work days. The garden is seeking volunteers from the community with all ability levels to gather and help the new director Ruth Copeman and the horticultural director Kristin Perry prepare for the 2011 season.

  • Recreation registration nearing in Harrison

    HARRISON — Registrations for the Town of Harrison’s 2011 Fun, Friends, & Fitness eight-week Summer Recreation Program and six-week Red Cross Swim Program will be held on Wednesday, May 11 and Thursday, May 12 from 5-7 p.m. at the Harrison Town Office. This is for resident taxpayers who reside year round in the Town of Harrison or own a summer home.

  • Supper dance

    LOCKE MILLS — A Supper Dance will be held at the American Legion Hall in Locke Mills on Tuesday, April 12 from 5 – 9:30 p.m. Music will be provided by the Richard Felt Band. A ham supper will be served by the American Legion Auxiliary. Doors open at 4 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $3 for children.

  • At the game

    GAME DAY — The West Paris Explorers Program – a before and afterschool enrichment program – was selected by TD Bank to be the lucky recipients of a day at the TD Bank Garden to watch a Boston Bruins game. The participating 16 students were picked up in a Cadillac Escalade stretch limo and escorted to the hockey game, and were allowed to enter through the players' entrance and tour the garden before the game.
