  • Fox School Farmers' Market plans opening

    SOUTH PARIS — The Fox School Farmers Market sees a growing future in which market members produce healthy food for the surrounding communities at affordable prices. It all starts with the opening day, Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    There is a renaissance happening with farmers’ markets returning and the South Paris market wants to grow and be a major food hub for shoppers.

    Bean supper

    PARIS — A home baked bean supper will be held on Saturday, May 7, at 5 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Paris, at the top of Paris Hill. The cost will be $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 12 and under. The supper will also include brown bread, hot dogs, casseroles, desserts and beverages.

  • Crooked River watershed survey call for volunteers

    CASCO — The Crooked River Survey Project Steering Committee is seeking volunteers to help with the upcoming watershed survey. Volunteers will be trained to identify and document sites where eroding soils are washing into the river. Once training has been completed, volunteers will work in teams to survey assigned areas of the watershed. This survey will primarily involve stream crossings and will not involve canoes, kayaks or waders; volunteer teams will travel in cars to bridges and culverts and will complete their surveys from dry land.

  • SMH holds mercury thermometer exchange

    NORWAY — On Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. – noon there will be a Community Mercury Thermometer Exchange in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Building at 193 Main St., Norway. The first 200 people to bring in their old mercury thermometers will receive a new digital thermometer, free of charge.
