  • Pajama Storytime at Norway library

    NORWAY — Do you find yourself unable to bring your children to storytime because you work during the day? If so, now is the time to let your child experience the joys of storytime at the Norway Memorial Library. The Children’s Department will be offering pajama storytime programs on Wednesday, April 20 and Wednesday, May 18 from 6:30-7:15 p.m. Pajama Storytime is for children ages two to five and will feature bedtime stories and lullabies to prepare your child for a good night’s sleep.

  • Grow produce for food pantries

    ORONO — As winter wanes, many are eager to start their gardens. As local gardeners start making their garden plans, the University of Maine Cooperative Extension's Master Gardener Volunteers Program is asking gardeners to consider growing extra produce to donate to local food pantries.

  • Fundraiser a success

    NORWAY — The Key Bank team of Relay for Life held a Moon Light Madness fundraiser on March 19 and it was a huge success. Team members would like to thank The Trolley and Federal Distributors for sponsoring the event.

    All involved were very generous in donating to the event. There were games, prizes and raffles during the evening.

    Federal Distributors donated T-shirts and a mountain bike for the raffle and Joel from The Trolley donated a snowboard and a portion of his profits to the Key Bank team.

  • Free subs for blood donors

    PORTLAND — The American Red Cross and SUBWAY® restaurants of Maine have teamed during April o help draw donors to Red Cross Donor Centers. SUBWAY® is providing blood or platelet donors a coupon for a free six-inch regular sub.

    Coupons will be distributed at the drives or donor centers and are redeemable at any SUBWAY® restaurant in Maine during the months of April and May.

  • Pizza challenge winners

    PIZZA CHALLENGE WINNERS — Side Line Variety won Best Cheese, Best Pepperoni and Best Overall Pizza categories; the Outpost won the Best Specialty Pizza category.   • Polar Plunge

    CHILLY CHARITY — These 15 volunteers recently braved the frigid waters of Sutherland Pond to raise money in support of Poland Spring Academy. The event, organized by PSA board member Ben Nugent, raised over $1700. Around 50 spectators also attended to lend their support.

  • Lighthouse historian seeks help

    AREA — "It's all about saving history, one lighthouse keeper photo at a time, but we are running out of time," says Tim Harrison, publisher of "Lighthouse Digest," the Maine-based lighthouse news and history magazine.

    Harrison, who has been researching and documenting lighthouse history since 1989, said he continues to be surprised at how few historic photographs have been located of the lighthouse keepers as well as the memories of their lives at the lighthouses.

    SOUTH PARIS — Paris Public Library's Afterschool program meets every Monday at 4 p.m. when SAD 17 is in session. All ages are welcome.

    April 4: Stories and Spring Bingo with Jellybeans

    April 11: Stories and Make & Fill an Easter Basket

    April 18: Special Patriot's Day event - Picnic at 12 noon. Bring your blanket and lunch. (no 4 p.m. group) Stories and Honor Patriots by planting lupine seeds

  • Chicken pies for sale at Grange

    NEW GLOUCESTER — At the recent meeting of Sabbathday Lake Grange, members met to discuss the upcoming celebration of Grange Month in April. Members discussed some ideas about who to present the annual Citizenship Award to.

    It was also noted that the they wanted to publicly thank a few people for helping the Grange through the winter, Pete Wills and David Marston for keeping the Grange plowed out this winter, and Del Dunn who once again came to the rescue after some of the pipes froze and broke.
