  • Drama Club performance set

    PARIS — Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Drama Club Night of Theatre is in the high school auditorium, Wednesday, May 11. Doors open at 6:15 p.m., show time is 6:30 p.m. Donations collected at the door are for future drama club performances.

  • Community cleanup at Lake

    NORWAY — The Norway Parks & Recreation Department will hold the annual Community Spring Clean Up at Lake Pennesseewassee Park on Saturday, May 7 from 8 a.m.-noon. From 8-11 a.m. work will consist of raking the public boat landing area, trails and beaches. From 11 a.m.-noon they will host fun family activities such as beach ball volleyball coordinated by the Daisy Girl Scout Troop, a basketball clinic coordinated by OHCHS seniors, Nature Hike Scavenger Hunt and knot tying coordinated by Norway/Paris Cub Scout Pack 130 and more.

  • Youth Ensemble auditions at USM School of Music

    GORHAM — Do you play an instrument? Do you like to sing? Are you in grade 12 or younger? Audition for the USM School of Music's Youth Ensembles. The Ensembles, comprised of young musicians from throughout northern New England, include the Southern Maine Children's Chorus, Portland Young People's String Consort, Portland Youth Junior Orchestra, Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Portland Youth Wind Ensemble.   • 'Food not Fines' Week in Bethel

    BETHEL — Do you have an overdue library book? Look under your bed, behind the couch, down beside the seat in the car - wherever. You aren’t going to find a deal like this very often. The Bethel Library has declared the week of May 9 to 14 Food Not Fines Week, part of a statewide fine-amnesty-food-drive coordinated by the Maine State Library. During this week patrons who return their overdue library items will have current and past fines (not including item replacement charges) excused in exchange for donations of non-perishable food.

    GIFTING – In celebration of their twelfth birthday, Marrae Kimball and Abby Earle threw a huge party. In lieu of birthday gifts, the girls had their guests bring in food and supplies for Responsible Pet Care.

  • Journaling workshop at library

    NORWAY — Beginning May 19, at 6:30 p.m., Norway Memorial Library will offer a three-week series of journaling workshops with poet and author, Paul Janeczko. The series, "Journal Writing: Finding Your Own Story," is the last in the library's adult programming focus on Memoir: Lives and Stories.

    In this class, participants will learn techniques for beginning and sustaining journal writing as a tool for self-exploration. Some in-class time will be devoted to writing.

  • Olympians party set at library

    NORWAY — Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be coming to the Norway Memorial Library on Tuesday, May 10 at 3:15 p.m. Come experience the magic as the Children’s Room is transformed into Camp Half-blood for the afternoon. Children and Percy Jackson lovers of all ages are invited to attend the festivities. Please register at the library by May 7 in order to reserve a spot at the program.
