  • Daughter honors Mom's memory

  • Writing students hold reading

    NORWAY — Students of Ms. Pamela Chodosh, English teacher at OHCHS, will be reading what they have written throughout the school year on Tuesday, May 10 at the Norway Memorial Library.

    Pieces being read will vary from poetry, to short stories, to songs. All will be performed by students. This is the second year that the Creative Writing students at OHCHS have held a public reading.

    "I hope to make this an annual event," said Chodosh. "I think it's important for students to do things like this and get this kind of experience."

  • Maine State Parks begin to open

    AUGUSTA — Maine state parks and historic sites are starting to open up for the season. Officials with the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands (BPL), under the Maine Department of Conservation, want to update visitors on several park situations around the state.

    Sebago Lake State Park in Casco is opening Friday, April 29, according to Park Manager Andy Haskell. All the sites at Witch Cove will be open, which is about 125 sites, and the shower buildings also will be open, he said.

  • SeniorsPlus celebrates Older Americans

    AREA — SeniorsPlus has partnered with University of Maine Cooperative Extension to bring a special presentation on nutrition on the Mobile Office during the month of May. Entitled "You are what you eat: Nutrition for Health Aging," the presentation will discuss nutrition needs as we age and staff will share recipes.

  • Historical Society to hold sale

    BETHEL — Bethel Historical Society’s 14th Annual St. Never’s Day Sale will be held on Saturday, May 28 under the tent on Stan Howe’s lawn at the corner of Mason and Broad Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    Donations of household goods, furniture, tools, dishes, books, etc. in good condition are being sought for the sale, which benefits the Society. Please no clothing, tires, computers, etc. or other unsalable items.

  • Celebrating Sex conference for women set

    PORTLAND — The MaineHealth Learning Resource Center offers: Celebrating Sex: A Conference for Women in Mid and Later Life, to be held on Saturday, May 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program will be held in the Charles A. Dana Center at Maine Medical Center, 22 Bramhall St. in Portland. There is a $20 per person fee for the conference, which includes breakfast and lunch.

    RETRO FABRIC – For many the sight of an apron brings back fond childhood memories. In honor of my mom, I am planning on sewing aprons for my daughter to create those same memories for her children.

  • Author to visit Oxford Elementary

    OXFORD — On Thursday and Friday, May 5 and 6, Maine children's book author Lynn Plourde will be visiting PreK-6 students at Oxford Elementary School. She will share books interactively during assemblies and then visit with students in small groups to share extra stories and writing advice. Plus on the evening of May 5 at 5 p.m., families are invited to a family literacy night with Plourde in which she will share her books interactively on slides while turning one book into a simple play with props.   • Brain Matters: what you need to know about stroke

    NORWAY — The MaineHealth Learning Resource Center at Stephens Memorial Hospital (SMH) offers "Brain Matters: What You Need to Know about Stroke,"on Tuesday, May 17, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., in the Harper Conference Center of the Ripley Medical Office Building at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.
