    TREE OF HOLES — Judging by the mass pile of woodchips at the bottom of the tree, a woodpecker must have had a feast. This tree of many holes was found in Carlene Dustin's back yard in Norway.

    RACIN' — March 26 Pack 130 of South Paris Pine Wood Derby winners are, from left, Joshua Burnham (1st), Jacob White (2nd), Owen Orlando (3rd), Brandon Billings (4th), and Brandon Smith (5th). All these scouts went to Districts to represent Pack 130 and Joshua Burnham placed 5th out of 79 scouts.

  • Mollyockett Chorus

    SINGING FOR PETS — The Mollyockett Chorus appeared recently at the Responsible Pet Animal Shelter Benefit Show at Oxford Hills High School. They will host "Friends and Family Night" at the Church of Latter Day Saints, Skeetfield Road, Oxford on May 3 at 7:00 pm in preparation for competition in Springfield, MA. This event is free and open to the public.

    FIRST PLACE — Oxford Elementary School's Team Platinum placed first at the MSAD17 District Elementary Math Meet held on April 13th at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Team Platinum members Brad Wielki, Logan Day, Tyler Hall, Brandon Labbe, Dana Casey and Ty Heaward are pictured here with Pat Harnett, Assistant Superintendent and Kathy Elkins, Curriculum Director. In addition to the team win, Brad Wielki tied for third and Brandon Labbe placed first in the sixth grade individual competition.

  • Walk a mile to help Polio

    BETHEL — The final eradication of Polio will be the objective as five Rotary clubs combine forces in two separate locations, Fryeburg and Bethel, to "Walk A Rotary Mile" Saturday, May 7.

  • Spaghetti supper is fundraiser

    HARRISON — The Waterford and Harrison fifth and sixth grade classes combined last year for a cost savings initiative in SAD 17. In doing so, some of the schools' traditions needed to be combined and one of them was the sixth graders going to Camp Kieve. This is a camp that teaches the meaning of teamwork and as the classes from the elementary school combine, they are able to act on what they learn. In order to keep this tradition alive, the parents are doing multiple fundraisers this spring and summer so that next fall the kids will have the money to go.

    NORWAY — Western Maine Health Vice President of Clinical Services, M. Patricia Cook, is pleased to recognize longtime employee Denise Eliot-Pruett for recently completing her Certified Nurses Assistant Course and in doing so sharing the Valedictory honors with another classmate, earning the class's highest honor.

  • Paris library has family program

    SOUTH PARIS — Celebrate May’s special days at the Paris Public Children’s Library on Mondays at 4 p.m when SAD 17 is in session. “Celebrations” welcomes patrons of all ages. Each session will begin with a story or two and will be followed by an activity. Alternate activities (puzzles, games, cut and paste, reading, coloring pages for all ages, etc.) will be available for those who choose to self-select.

    May 2: Make origami tulips for Mother’s Day cards.
