  • Longtime SMH employee earns CNA

    NORWAY — Western Maine Health Vice President of Clinical Services, M. Patricia Cook, is pleased to recognize longtime employee Denise Eliot-Pruett for recently completing her Certified Nurses Assistant Course and in doing so sharing the Valedictory honors with another classmate, earning the class's highest honor.

  • Paris library has family program

    SOUTH PARIS — Celebrate May’s special days at the Paris Public Children’s Library on Mondays at 4 p.m when SAD 17 is in session. “Celebrations” welcomes patrons of all ages. Each session will begin with a story or two and will be followed by an activity. Alternate activities (puzzles, games, cut and paste, reading, coloring pages for all ages, etc.) will be available for those who choose to self-select.

    NORWAY — Transition Oxford Hills is offering a training April 30 – May 1 for people interested in the future. In a time of higher oil prices, lifestyles will be changing. This is an opportunity to help shape that transition.

  • Invasive river plants watched

    SOUTH PARIS — The Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District last fall completed a project that involved the mapping of invasive plants along the upper Saco River floodplain, a project begun in 2008. Assisting partners in this effort were The Nature Conservancy, the Saco River Recreation Council, and the Saco River Corridor Commission. The mapping project was funded by a Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund grant with match provided by assisting partners.

  • Local students honored

    SOUTH PARIS — The Molly Ockett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Fryeburg-Oxford Hills Area, will be honoring three area high school seniors at the annual Good Citizens Tea to be held on Sunday, May 1, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Haskell House, 1st Congregational Church, 17 East Main Street, South Paris. Family and faculty are invited to attend this presentation.

    The students are winners of the annual DAR Good Citizen Award and Essay Contest.

  • Training for volunteers planned

    LEWISTON — In response to increasing needs, Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice (AHCH) is seeking individuals who are interested in volunteering to help home care patients and their families.

  • Norway Easter Fest Saturday

    NORWAY — The Norway Easter Fest will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. The event will include a Main Street egg hunt, meet the Easter Bunny, dye eggs, balloons, crafts, Easter egg art, raffles, games and more. The Norway Easter Fest is open to everyone.

    This event is a collaborative effort of the Norway Downtown Promotions Committee, Norway Recreation Department, Norway Memorial Library, Healthy Oxford Hills, Norway Savings Bank and Main Street businesses.

  • Hereford sale, show set

    FRYEBURG — The New England Galloway Group and Fryeburg Youth Show will be hosting the 21st annual National Belted Galloway and Pride of the Pines Hereford sale and Youth Show on April 28, to May 1, at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds in Fryeburg.

    The Youth Show sign-ups start on Thursday and the commercial exhibitors set up.

  • Oxford County Dems to meet

    COUNTY — The Oxford County Democrats will hold a series of Special Caucus Meetings focused on Issues and Activism. Sessions will be held in four areas of the county including South Paris, Fryeburg, Rumford and Bethel between April 30 and the end of May.

  • Hartford Heritage plant sale slated

    HARTFORD — The Hartford Heritage Society is pleased to present an opportunity to fill your gardens with new flowers. Perennials, annuals, houseplants, seedlings and bulbs, will all be available at the Hartford Heritage Society Plant Sale on Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Held at the J. & O. Irish Museum on Main Street (Route 140) in Hartford Center, the sale will include plants from gardeners throughout the area, as well as donations from local nurseries. Add an extra few for Mother’s Day.
