  • Cruise-ins planned at Tractor Supply

    OXFORD — The Uptown Cruizahs cruisep-ins are set to start on Monday, May 23 and continue every Monday night (weather permitting) at Tractor Supply on Rt. 26 in Oxford from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

    There will be fun, food, and amusement. Spectators are welcome to enjoy the sights while talking to proud owners and car enthusiasts. If you have a car of interest bring it and share with others.

    The Uptown Cruizahs car club raises money throughout the year with their pie auctions, 50/50s and other fundraisers to benefit such causes as the Veteran's Home and Santa visits Oxford.

  • Maine author celebrates release of new mystery

    BETHEL — William D. Andrews will celebrate the release of "Breaking Ground" with a talk and book signing at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Bethel Historical Society, 10-14 Broad St., Bethel. The event will be held at the Mason House exhibit hall on the Bethel Common.

  • Pie sale in Bridgton

    BRIDGTON — Memorial Day weekend is a time for honoring loved ones who’ve sacrificed for our country, but it also means a time for celebrating. Summer’s first picnics, family dinners, and gatherings with friends mean sharing great food. Top off your celebration with a homemade pie from the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ of Bridgton’s pie sale on May 28. The popular pie sale begins at 9 a.m. at Oberg’s Insurance and Real Estate Agency, 132 Main Street, Bridgton.

  • Norway Rec to hold yard sale

    NORWAY — The Norway Recreation Department will hold a yard sale, rain or shine, on Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m.-noon at the Norway Fire Station. Items for sale will be recreational, such as bicycles, roller blades, racquetball and squash racquets and more. This is the same time and place as the Responsible Pet Care Plant Sale. So stop by, say hi and take advantage of some good deals.

    WEST PARIS — West Paris Old Home Days will be held this year on Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11. “Music is in the Air” is the theme with live music scheduled throughout the two-day event.

  • Maine's First Lady honors long term care residents

    AUGUSTA — Maine First Lady Ann LePage recently joined the Maine Health Care Association (MHCA) to honor the accomplishments of 36 people living in the state’s long term care facilities, including Jeanne Godin of Victorian Villa in Canton, Robert Cayer of Rumford Community Home and Louis Bakula of Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris.

  • Chicken pie suppers begin

    BOLSTERS MILLS — The first chicken pie supper of the season at the Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church will be Saturday, May 21. Proceeds from this supper will be dedicated to providing scholarships for children wishing to go to Camp Mechuwana, a United Methodist Camp in Maine, this summer.

  • Haiti after the earthquake

    WEST PARIS — Joe Makley will speak about his recent trip to Haiti on Friday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the West Paris Library. In February/March, Joe accompanied Dr. Cynthia Desoi of Lewiston on a volunteer trip to Pwoje Espwa Sud, a residential school in Les Cayes, Haiti. Dr. Desoi is the medical director for the school, which serves over 700 school-aged youngsters with food, shelter and a chance at a better life in the often dire conditions of Southern Haiti. Espwa is run by Fr. Marc Boisvert, who grew up in Lewiston.
