  • Togus the cat gets his first book

    NORWAY — Togus the cat, Maine’s popular feline TV personality, is stepping from the screen onto the shelves. Togus and his owner, Don Carrigan, are introducing their new children’s book, “Togus: A Coon Cat Finds a Home,” the true story of how Togus was rescued and finally came to live with Don and his wife Donna. The book is lavishly illustrated by artist Tom Block of Walpole

  • Math winner

    MATH ADDS UP — During their Math-a-thon celebration, top earner Jacob Knapp, left, receives a prize a from Mrs. Smith, 5th grade teacher and Math team leader, at Harrison Elementary School. The Math-a-thon team earned $1,422.25 for the St. Judes Research!

  • Red Cross blood drives in June

    AREA — The American Red Cross, Northern New England Blood Services Region will hold blood drives in cities and towns throughout Maine. All eligible and new blood donors are encouraged to give blood. Donors are needed every day to make sure there is an adequate blood supply for patients in need.

    All presenting donors in June will receive a coupon for a free day pass to a Maine State Park. Enter to win a Bean's Acadia Cruiser Bike by Schwinn, courtesy of L.L.Bean. One winner will be drawn each week.

  • Lumber lumberjack

    LUMBER LUMBERJACK — Frank Flanders, 90, of Norway stands next to a lumberjack that he made from a section of felled tree. Flanders cut down the tree in his yard because he was afraid it might fall on his house. After taking a second look at it, he decided to cut out a section and, using axes, carved it into this woodsman.

  • SMH holds grief support

    NORWAY — Stephens Memorial Hospital will be offering a grief support group beginning Friday, June 3, from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Harper Conference Center of the Ripley Medical Building. The group will meet once a week for six weeks and will offer support, information and activities to help group members with their grieving process.

    This support group is free of charge but registration is required. For more information or to register, please contact Robin Green, LCSW, at 743-1562 ext 379.

  • Parenting group offered

    WEST PARIS — Children don’t come with a training manual and disciplining can be difficult. Learn a new method of how to handle misbehavior and encourage good behavior in this two-session program, to be held Thursdays, May 26 and June 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at  the West Paris Elementary School.

    This program is geared for parents with children two-12 years. Pizza dinner will be provided. To register for this free program, call Melissa Wakefield at 739-6544.

    School aged children are welcome. A Disney movie and popcorn will be provided for them.
