  • Call for artists/crafters at logging festival

    RANGELEY – Saturday, July 30 marks the celebration of the 31st Annual Rangeley Logging Festival & Parade. This is set to be the biggest and best Festival ever. State and Federal dignitaries will be on hand to help honor this area’s long-held tradition of working in the woods. After the Parade The Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum will host the Festival at the Museum grounds at 221 Stratton Road just outside of Rangeley.

  • 100 volunteers celebrate National Trails Day

    NORWAY — On June 3, approximately 100 volunteers spent the day at The Progress Center volunteering their time in celebration of the American Hiking Society’s 19th annual National Trails Day.

  • Teen summer reading opportunity at library

    NORWAY — Avoid summer slide. Summer slide is the loss of educational skills over the summer months that can occur when students do not participate in educational activities. One way to avoid it is to take part in "Let's Talk About It: The American Sporting Experience," a Maine Humanities Council reading and discussion series. The series began Wednesday, June 22, 7-8:30 p.m. at Norway Memorial Library with a discussion of two short works, "A River Runs Through It" by Norman MacLean and "The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner" by Alan Sillitoe.

  • Ham Radio day

    FRYEBURG — Oxford County Amateur Radio/Community Emergency Response Team will participate in the Ham Radio Field Day from 12 noon Saturday, June 25 to 12 noon Sunday, June 26, on the midway at Fryeburg Fairgrounds.

    The field day is designed to encourage amateur radio operators to set up their equipment in a temporary location to develop their emergency communication skills.

    This free event is open to the public so visitors can experience or participate in Ham Radio operations. For more information call Brad Saunders at 557-8460.

    MESMERIZING MUSIC — Cack Bean, 81, of South Paris, takes some time on Thursday to play his Regal Dobro guitar while singing a few hymns to those enjoying their lunch at the Lake Pennesseewassee Rest Area in Norway including two-and-a-half-year-old Steven McCann of West Paris. Cack is a member of the Grace Fellowship Church.
