    LIVING STRONG — Richard Bean Sr. has written a book of short stories that are full of humor, humanity and inspiration. Many of the characters live and work in our small Maine towns.

  • Author donates book

    GIFT — Jennifer Lewis, Hamlin Memorial Library librarian, accepts a copy of The Building of Paris Hill Village From 1789-2010, given by its author, Beverly Shaw. The book is a documentation of the buildings that are considered part of Paris Hill during that period of time, even those no longer standing. Copies will be available at Founder's Day, July 16, on the Paris Hill Common.

The Stifler Family Foundation sponsored the construction of a museum display room in the new Lakeside Lodge building at the Bryant Pond 4-H Camp & Learning Center.

  • Guided full moon paddle planned

    DENMARK — Come be mesmerized by the full moon this Friday, July 15, on a guided paddle in the Bridgton Lakes Region with a sweet group of fellow travelers. Join Nurture Through Nature's Maine Guide, Jen Deraspe, on a gentle, mindful evening of adventure. Cost is $50 and includes canoe, life jacket and paddle. If you want to bring your own kayak, not a problem. Bring a companion and both can take five dollars off. Rain date is Saturday evening 7 p.m. Pre-registration is required; please call 452-2929 if you plan to join in.

  • Special "Famous" chicken pie supper in Bolsters Mills

    BOLSTERS MILLS — Although the July “Famous” Chicken Pie Supper will be held in Bolsters Mills on its usual third Saturday of the month, July 16, at the United Methodist Church, this supper will be very special. The proceeds of this chicken pie supper will be dedicated to Hope and Pastor Walter Brown to help defray medical expenses they have incurred over the last couple of years.

    CONGRATULATIONS — Glen Young, left, receives congratulations from President Barack Obama as Jacqueline looks on during a recent trip to Washington, D.C.  The couple were honored with a Champions of Change award for their work at their greenhouse in Paris.

  • Responsible Pet Care plans raffle

    NORWAY — Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills, a nonprofit, no-kill feline shelter and adoption center in Norway, has announced its summer raffle.

    This year they will be selling tickets to raffle a lovely amethyst necklace donated by Rochester's Eclectic Emporium in Oxford. The amethysts are 12 carat total weight and were mined at Deer Hill in Stowe. They are set in silver with a twisted, 16-inch chain.

  • Scribner’s Mill schedules summer events

    HARRISON — Open houses held this summer at Scribner’s Mill, a turn of the century saw mill and homestead, have been well attended, leading organizers to believe they’ll have a strong turnout at this year’s 20th anniversary of Back to the Past, set for Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
