  • Basic Life Support for healthcare providers offered

    AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support For Healthcare Providers course on Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals with the skills to keep people alive until they can be brought to a hospital or be treated with more advanced lifesaving measures.

    Karaoke

    OXFORD — Karaoke will be held on Friday, March 15, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the American Legion on King Street in Oxford. Doors will open at 6 p.m. This is a BYOB event and the cost is $7. The karaoke will feature TJ the DJ. For more information, call 539-2649.

  • Gannett donates to Community Kitchen

    DONATION — Kristin Benedix, executive director of The Progress Center in Norway, accepts a $1,600 check from Debbie Sample, representing the Gannett Foundation and WCSH6.

  • Win $5 in March at Paris library

    PARIS — It is as easy as one, two, three. Visit the Paris Public Library. Pick a handout with three cryptograms with clues to take home. Return your finished puzzles to the library by the end of March.

    At the end of March, one puzzle sheet will be randomly drawn from a container. It will be checked for accuracy. If correct, the winner will be contacted to pick up their $5. All word lovers welcome!

  • Active Communities conference planned

    PARIS — The Western Maine Active Communities Conference will take place on Friday, March 22 at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in South Paris. The free event will offer valuable information regarding how to transform towns into active communities.

    Active Communities integrate physical activity opportunities in community planning, transportation and land use decisions. They enhance health and well-being, economic prosperity, public safety and academic performance.

  • Learn to prune apple trees

    PARIS — With spring around the corner, now is the time to think about learning how to prune your apple trees to maximize production and reduce the prevalence of disease.

    The University of Maine Cooperative Extension has partnered with orchard manager Scott Miller of PieTree Orchard in Sweden to offer a one-day workshop on apple tree management and pruning.

    The workshop is from 9 a.m.-12 noon on Saturday, March 16 (snow day, March 17) at PieTree Orchard, 803 Waterford Road, Sweden. Cost for the workshop is $25 and checks should be made out to PieTree Orchard.

  • CPR, first aid course slated

    OXFORD — There will be an American Heart Association CPR and First Aid class on Saturday, March 9, at 10 a.m. at the Oxford Public Safety Building.

    On completion of the one-day class, you will receive a certificate that is good for two years. This certificate course is accepted for day/child care providers, loggers, guides, teachers and any other non-healthcare related professions.

    Future scheduled classes will be April 10, May 4 and June 8. Please call to confirm dates. Groups may also request to schedule a class at their convenience.

  • Goulet family benefit planned

    MECHANIC FALLS — A Goulet Family Benefit Dinner and Dance will be held Friday, March 8 at the American Legion Post 150 in Mechanic Falls. Help support a family who has given endless support to the community over the years.

    Rusty Goulet, son of Sue and Lou, was injured in a snowmobile accident and while recovering in the hospital, their Mechanic Falls home caught on fire. The home is a total loss and they have no insurance.
