  • A Birdhouse

    I want a birdhouse

for a family of tree swallows

or house wrens or whoever my cat

    will cause no sorrows.

I hope they return year after year

    and reinvigorate the roots

    that I have grown here.

For sustainability’s the name of the game now.

Today I heard of Uranus and of Neptune

“ice blocks” - our news described them

    and said to go

    would be difficult to pay.

But maybe we are here to stay and staying

    and with bats dying

tree swallows out value Neptune’s info.

  • It's so hot

    It’s so hot.

    It’s hotter than a mother-in-law’s

    kiss on our face.

    Even the sun is looking

    for some shade.

    The parking spots are determined

not by how close but by a shady place.

    Two trees fighting over dogs,

hoping one of them will come to their aid!

    It’s so hot.

    It’s hotter than high noon

    in Death Valley.

    The squirrels are handling

    their nuts with pot holders.

    I saw a robin dipping

    his worm in ice tea.

The devil in hell has turned
