  • Grange to hold craft supply sale

    MINOT — Minot Center Grange will be holding a craft supply sale on Saturday, September 24 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Anyone with leftover craft supplies who would like to rent a table to sell them may call Carol after 5 p.m. at 966-3036 or e-mail Cindy at northerntropics@yahoo.com using "craft supplies" in the subject line. Supplies could include, but are not limited to, fabrics, yarns, pom poms, eyes, paints, wood pieces, etc. Also, tools used for crafting and organizers for the tools and supplies sell well. The charge is $10 for a six-foot table.

  • Bluegrass night set

    BRYANT POND — On Saturday, September 24, at 7 p.m. an evening of bluegrass music will be held at the Bryant Pond Grange Hall. The evening will feature Kip and Dale Hemingway and the Thursday Night Pickers, featuring Becky Law. Refreshments will be on sale.

    Proceeds will benefit repairs to the Grange Hall.

  • Oxford Duck Race

    OXFORD — The Oxford Duck Race will be held on Saturday, September 10, at 2 p.m. on the King Street Bridge. Tickets are $5 each and are being sold at the Oxford Town Office, Polly’s, Record Lumber, Smedberg’s, Crestholm Farm and Key Bank. First prize is $200, second prize is $150, third prize is $100 and the last duck is $100.

  • Community kitchen opening

    NORWAY — The Progress Center plans the Grand Opening of its Community Kitchen on Thursday, September 29. The event will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at 35 Cottage St. in Norway. Ribbon cutting will take place at 3 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

  • Tax, rent help offered

    NORWAY — The Property Tax and Rent Refund "Circuitbreaker" program will take place at the Norway Town Office, 19 Danforth Street in Norway, on Wednesdays, September 21 through October 19.

    The SeniorsPlus Mobile office will be assisting the general public with Tax and Rent applications. An appointment is required; call SeniorsPlus at 1-800-427-1241.

  • MSHCC resident turns 102

    SOUTH PARIS — On Thursday, July 21 longtime resident Phemie Russell gathered with family and friends at the Market Square Health Care Center and celebrated her 102nd birthday. She was surrounded by three generations of family members who traveled from around the state to be a part of the celebration. The dining hall was full as residents and family members sang "Happy Birthday" as her lunch was served.

    NORWAY — The MaineHealth Learning Resource Center at Stephens Memorial Hospital (SMH) offers Lowering Your Cholesterol on Saturday, September 17 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. The program will be held at Hannaford, 1603 Main Street in Oxford.

    Understand which foods help you lower your cholesterol by learning to read nutrition labels, exploring low-cholesterol eating and tasting some heart-healthy foods. This free class will be led by Hannaford’s registered dietitian, Dona Forke.

  • Jugtown Plains walk held

    OTISFIELD — Sponsored by the Otisfield Conservation Committee, a site walk was held into the sensitive area of the Jugtown Plains on July 8. This conserved parcel of land of 3000 acres is located in portions of Naples, Otisfield and Casco. Owned by the Hancock Lumber Company, the conservation easement is held by the Maine Department of Conservation. This area was one of the early locations of settlement in the region. Today the houses are gone, even the cellar holes are hard to find, but a small population of Pitch Pine still exists in the sensitive area.

  • Stutter therapy book available

    AREA — "Self-Therapy for the Stutterer" is the classic self-help guide by the founder of The Stuttering Foundation, Malcolm Fraser. It is written to and for the many adults and teens who stutter. The 192-page book is available at most public libraries including the the Whitman Memorial Library in Bryant Pond, the Charlotte E. Hobbs Memorial Library in Lovell, the Lewis Dana Hill Memorial Library in Lovell, and the Paris Public Library in South Paris. If you stutter, you do not need to surrender helplessly to your speech difficulty because you can change the way you talk.
