  • New guide for towns to encourage farming

    BELFAST — After years of decline, farming in Maine is on the rise. But farmers still face challenges, and communities can help farmers address them. A new guide released by Maine Farmland Trust and American Farmland Trust provides specific examples and suggestions of what local officials and residents can do to support farming in their communities.

  • SMH Family Birthplace offers breastfeeding classes

    NORWAY — The Family Birthplace at Stephens Memorial Hospital announces an upcoming Breastfeeding Class for new and experienced mothers. The class will be held on Tuesday, November 8 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in the Harper Conference Center at the Ripley Medical Office Building (193 Main Street, Norway).

    For a schedule of future classes, more information or to register for this class please call the Family Birthplace at 743-1562 X6951. Pre-registration and payment is required. There is a $10 fee per couple.

  • World Prematurity Day is November 17

    NORWAY — The Family Birthplace at Stephens Memorial Hospital celebrates the birth of all babies and would like to wish all women a healthy and full-term pregnancy. In recognition of World Prematurity Day on November 17, they present this information on babies born early.

    CASCO — Over the river and through the woods...to Christmas in the Village we go.  

    It's a real old-fashioned Christmas in Casco Village, with the Casco Village Church United Church of Christ hosting the annual "Christmas in the Village" fair on Saturday, November 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    Breakfasts

    HARRISON — A public buffet breakfast will be held Saturday, November 5 from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Congregational Church, (across the street from Crystal Lake Park). Sponsored by the United Parish of Harrison and N. Bridgton, breakfast will feature scrambled eggs, French toast, breakfast sandwiches, home fries, sausage, fresh fruit, OJ, coffee and tea. Donations will be appreciated. Proceeds will be used for food assistance during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season.

    HARRISON — Please stop by the Harrison Rec. Café for eat in or take out on Tuesday, November 8 beginning at 8 a.m. The Café is located in the garage bays next to the voting area. They will be selling breakfast breads and muffins, soups, chowders, chili, breads, baked beans, steamed hot dogs, pies, hot/cold beverages and Election specials. All proceeds will go to the Recreation programs.

    Come support the youth programs while performing your civic duty.

  • SWOAM presents Logging with ATVs

    OTISFIELD — The November 5 meeting of the Western Maine chapter of the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine will present demonstrations of using ATVs to move sawlogs, pulpwood and firewood trees out of the woods with logging arches specifically designed for that use.

  • Bridgton to offer free partnership

    BRIDGTON — Have you wanted to quit smoking but don't know where to get free assistance and support?

    Bridgton Hospital will be offering a free stop smoking class starting in November. The class will be offered November 8, 15, 22 and 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the hospital.

  • November classes at SeniorsPlus

    LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus, the area agency on aging based in Lewiston, offers free (unless noted) classes for the older adult learner. The classes are designed to help people make informed choices about aging well, living independently, and doing it all safely.

    The classes offered this month are:

    Basic Photography for the Holidays, November 4, 10 a.m.–noon, instructor John Theberge. Bring your camera.
