  • Book Fair planned

    POLAND — Poland Community School will host a Scholastic Book Fair on Saturday, November 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in conjunction with the Family Fall Festival.

    Funds raised will help purchase books and reading related materials for the Poland Community School. Families, faculty and the community are invited to attend this fun event that helps inspire children to become lifelong readers.

  • National Gaming Day at library

    NORWAY — Libraries have long been known as the place to go for books of all types. From mysteries to biographies, romance to reference. Now, libraries are also a great source for all different types of games.

  • Pumpkin winner

    WINNER — Waterford Congregational Church's Harvest Supper was held at the Wilkins House in Waterford Saturday night. Nineteen fantastic pumpkins were entered in the decorated pumpkin contest. Children and adults voted for their favorites by putting money in the dishes in front of each pumpkin. Lauren Hewson of Waterford was the winner; her creatively-painted pumpkin collected $30 . Altogether, $295.75 was collected which will be donated to Heifer International to buy livestock for a family to empower them to turn a life of hunger into self reliance and hope.

  • Grief support offered

    NORWAY — Stephens Memorial Hospital will be offering a grief support group beginning Tuesday, November 22 through December 20, from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Office Building (193 Main Street, Norway). The group will meet every Tuesday for five weeks and will offer support, information and activities to help group members with support through the holiday season.

    This support group is free of charge but registration is required. For more information or to register, please contact Robin Green, LCSW at 743-1562 ext 6999.

  • SMH offers car seat inspection event

    NORWAY — The staff at the Family Birthplace is urging parents, caregivers and grandparents to make sure their child safety seats are properly installed on Saturday, November 12 at the Norway Fire Department between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be available to provide free hands-on seat inspections.

  • OCEA-R presents book to library

    GIFT TO LIBRARY — Rodney Abbott, representing the Oxford County Educators Association, Retired, presented Dean Bennett's "The Lake Loon" to the Board of Trustees of the Whitman Memorial Library in Bryant Pond. This is the second annual gift from that group who are sponsoring a program called Maine Books for Maine Kids and are donating to all the libraries with a children's section in Oxford County. This, and last year's book, "At One in a Place Called Maine" by Lynn Plourde, are excellent additions to the children's library.
