  • Uptown Cruizahs Car Club

    OXFORD — Come and spend the evening with the Uptown Cruizahs Car Club at Tractor Supply on Route 26 in Oxford again this year. Their first cruise night is Monday, May 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. Cruise nights will be held weekly on Mondays, weather permitting. So bring the whole family and enjoy good food, fine music by Red Wing, and take a stroll down memory lane. Proceeds from these cruise nights and their show on August 4 this year at New Balance benefit local charities like the activity fund at Maine Veterans' Home and Santa Visits Oxford.

    Crafters wanted

    CASCO — The Vendredi Club of Casco is having its third annual craft fair on November 3 at Crooked River School on Route 11 in Casco, and they want you to be a part of the event. The fair features a wide variety of handcrafts and has space for more crafters who would like to have their unique craft included. Space is limited so commercial products or vendors cannot be accepted.

  • SMH Run for Wellness 5K – for the health of it.

    NORWAY — On Sunday, June 2, SMH will be holding its annual SMH Run for Wellness 5K road race that is open to Stephens Memorial Hospital employees and the community. If you are an experienced competitor or if you are interested in participating in your first race, you are invited to walk or run on June 2 in the SMH Run for Wellness 5K! This is a great family event and all levels of ability are welcome. Come and walk or run with them, for the health of it!

  • Maine Audubon seeks anglers for Brook Trout Survey Project

    FALMOUTH — Maine Audubon, Trout Unlimited and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (IFW) are seeking volunteer anglers to survey remote ponds in western and northern Maine for brook trout this coming fishing season. Survey information collected by anglers will be used by the nonprofit organizations and IFW to help identify populations of brook trout to be eligible for conservation management practices.

  • Public interest forum

    NORWAY — A public interest forum on "Tar Sands Oil View from Maine" will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, at Fare Share Commons on 443 Main Street in Norway. Earl Morse will provide an update on a proposal to send Canadian crude oil through our state to Portland via a pipeline. A discussion will follow.

  • 18th annual Migratory Bird Walk scheduled

    NORWAY — Birders prepare your binoculars and dust off your Audubon Guides, the Western Foothills Land Trust’s 18th annual bird walk is set for 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 11 at Roberts Farm Preserve. Rain date is May 12 at 7:30 a.m.

    The bird walk is highly competitive, very fun and educational. Bring your binoculars and bird books. Dress for weather, bugs, walking, and wet footing. Participants generally identify about 50 species during the two-hour walk. Refreshments will be available. A $10 donation is requested.

  • Safe Voices to host Walk to End Domestic Violence

    LEWISTON — Safe Voices will be holding its Walk to End Domestic Violence on Saturday, June 15. The Walk starts at 9:30 a.m. at Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston. The purpose of the Walk is to bring awareness to the issue of domestic abuse and support the right of every person to feel safe and live free from violence. All money raised will support services to victims of domestic abuse in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford Counties. Participants raise money by collecting pledges and walking. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with opening ceremony at 10 a.m.

    PARIS — The Paris Public Library recently added the following children's picture books to its collection.
