  • Group honors victims’ rights

    AUGUSTA — The Maine Chapter of Parents Of Murdered Children will be hosting a National Crime Victims’ Rights Week celebration on Sunday, April 21, at the Calumet Club on West River Road in Augusta.

    This will mark the beginning of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, a time to focus on victims of crime and celebrate the nation’s progress in serving them.

    Movie Night

    OXFORD — “A Vow To Cherish” will be showing at Hosanna Church Movie Night Sunday, April 21. “A Vow to Cherish” stars Ken Howard of White Shadow fame and Hill Street Blues’ actress, Barbara Babcock.

    John and Ellen Brighton are happily married with a very blessed life. John owns a very prosperous business with his brother Phil, while Ellen is a very devoted elementary school teacher. Life couldn’t be any better. Then tragedy strikes.

  • Ward to discuss riding programs

    BRYANT POND — There will be two programs in May at the Whitman Memorial Library in Bryant Pond. On Thursday, May 9, at 2 p.m. Dianne Ward of Deep Wood Farm will be giving a general overview of all that she offers with her summer riding programs.

    She gives private and group lessons to all ages and abilities including senior citizens, beginning riders on up to advanced. They have public trail rides and weekend camping with the horses. Come and see all that she has to offer.

    The program is open to the public at no charge and light refreshments will be served.

  • Big Tree Contest program is offered

    HEBRON — On Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. until noon, the OCSWCD will be presenting a program on its annual Big Tree Contest.

    Information will be available about which native trees are involved in the search, how to nominate a tree and what happens after you’ve nominated a tree.

  • Sheep & Wool Festival slated

    DEERFIELD, NH — Join in on Saturday and Sunday, May 11 and 12 at the Deerfield Fairgrounds in Deerfield, NH for the 37th annual NH Sheep & Wool Festival. There will be more than 100 vendors of yarn and other wool and fiber products, as well as farming supplies for sheep, alpacas, llamas, goats and rabbits.

    NORWAY — Since 1970, hundreds of nations have celebrated Earth Day on April 22 as a day of service to Mother Earth. Thanks to Rijah Newell, Norway has celebrated the day on April 21 since 2007.

    This year, The Alan Day Community Garden will continue the tradition on Sunday, April 21, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Located on Whitman Street, across from the Norway Grange, the ADCG invites the public to share in a day of teaching, learning, and service to the Earth.

  • Community clean up at sports complex

    NORWAY — The Norway Parks & Recreation Department and Norway Youth Baseball will hold the annual Community Spring Clean Up at Lovejoy Farm Sports Complex on Saturday, April 13 from 8 a.m.-noon.

    The work will consist of raking, edging the infields, weed-eating around fences, etc.

    Come enjoy fellowship and sunshine for an hour or all morning; any time you give is appreciated and helps ready the ball fields for spring, summer and fall use. Please bring your own gloves and rakes.

  • Public interest forum slated

    NORWAY — A public interest forum "Seeds for Local and Global Sustainability" will be held Thursday, April 18, at 7 p.m. at Fare Share Common, 443 Main Street in Norway. Mark Silber will be the presenter.

    Mark's discussion will be about seeds. He is a farmer, teacher, anthropologist, photographer and former public official. His home and farm are in Sumner.
