  • Not-so-good old days

    Picking up a copy of the Norway Advertiser 80 years ago always allowed readers to somewhat escape the depressing economy, the endless political outrages and the troublesome events abroad. Instead, they could focus on that endless source of fascination for all humans — the misfortunes of their neighbors. From the Norway Advertiser, January 6, 1933:

    PARIS — The following is the Closed Case Report from Maine Superior  Court in Oxford County from December 1, to December 31.

    Walter H. Akers, DOB 3/20/65, of Dixfield, was charged with two counts of Assault, Reckless Conduct and Criminal Threatening on 8/2/12 in Rumford by Rumford Police.  The charges were all dropped.

    Friday, February 1

    07:19 – Tausha Lynn Plante, born 11-17-76, of 248 Knox St., Rumford, was arrested in South Paris by Oxford County Deputy Bill Grover and charged with Failure to Appear.

    11:13 – Zachary R. Hatstat, born 9-23-92, of 498 Route 232, Woodstock, was arrested in Woodstock by Maine State Trooper Adam Fillebrown and charged with OAS.

  • Driver in Allen Hill rollover charged with OUI

    DRUNK DRIVING —  Virginia Goodwin, 52, of South Paris, the driver of this 2013 Nissan Altima, was charged with Operating Under the Influence of an Intoxicating Substance after she crashed her vehicle while traveling on Allen Hill Road on January 7, according to Oxford Police Lieutenant Michael Ward. According to Ward, Goodwin's blood alcohol test showed that she was three times the legal limit when the accident occurred.

  • Sheriff's Office warns public of scams

    COUNTY — A couple of scams have been circulating the county that everyone should be aware of, the Oxford County Sheriff's Office warns. 

    The first of the scams is known as the "grandparent scam" – someone calls stating they are a grandchild and have been accused of wrongdoing, according to the SO. 

    The telephone line is full of static, but the caller continues to claim they are somehow in trouble, that they have been falsely accused and need bail money.

    PARIS — The following is the Closed Case Report from Maine Superior  Court in Oxford County from November 1, to November 30.

    Evan D. Arvedon, DOB 9/17/90, of Foxboro, MA, was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Loud Unreasonable Noise and Refusing to Submit to Arrest or Detention, Bodily Injury and Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer on 4/8/12 in Newry by Oxford Sheriff.  He was found guilty on the first charge and fined $400.  The other charges were dropped.
