  • Straight through the stop sign....

    ROLL OVER — Norway Police Officer Holli Pullen responded to this crash at the corner of Main Street and Pleasant Street in Norway at 9:30 p.m. last Thursday. State Police, with a tracking dog, were initially unable to track the culprits, who fled the scene. However, after investigating, on Monday, February 21, Pullen issued Michael Macut Jr., 20, of Bridgton, a summons for Leaving the Scene of an Accident.

  • Dog tracking leads to apprehension

    PARIS — Joseph Allen Denbow Jr., 19, of Paris was arrested on February 10 and charged on five counts including Theft by Unauthorized Use of Property and Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol.

    Paris Police Officer Raymond Paar was responding to a report of a stolen vehicle at 10 Maple Street in Paris when he was approached by Denbow.  According to Paar, Denbow was out of breath, covered in snow, and clearly intoxicated.

  • Grand jury indicts accused child molester

    ANDROSCOGGIN COUNTY — An Androscoggin Grand Jury and Oxford District Attorney agreed on Wednesday, February 9 to issue 20 indictments in the case of John Callahan, accused last October of molesting and assaulting boys in Mechanic Falls.

    The Grand Jury held up all 20 charges issued against Callahan.  They included 17 felonies, including Class A Gross Sexual Assault and one charge of Unlawful Possession of  Explicit Material depicting a minor under the age of 12.

    Friday, February 4

    17:18 – Richard B. Berry, born 2-19-62, of 7 Oak St. #13, Paris, was arrested in Paris by Paris Police Officer Mike Dailey and charged with Assault Domestic and Criminal Mischief.

    OXFORD COUNTY — The following are drivers who were apprehended by local law enforcement and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while Under the Influence of an Intoxicating Substance (OUI)

    Joseph Allen Denbow Jr., born November 14, 1991, of Pine Ridge Road in Paris, was arrested on Pine Ridge Rd. by Norway Police Officer Holli Pullen and charged with Leaving the Scene of PD Accident, Operating After Suspension, OUI, Violation of Bail Conditions and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.  Denbow was out on bail for a prior case of OUI.

  • Police track down stolen snowmobile

    NORWAY — Norway police were able to recover a stolen snowmobile after a two-day investigation.

    Eric Heino was arrested on February 11 and charged with a Class C felony after a tip from an anonymous informant led law enforcement officials to him. 

    Marc Todd, of Norway, reported his snowmobile stolen on Wednesday, February 9.  According to Detective Gary Hill, he had left it by a trail near Sodom Road on Monday after experiencing mechanical problems, only to find it missing when he returned.

    10:44 – Nicholas R. Varnum, born 3-27-90, of 707 Forrest Ave., Rumford, was arrested at 707 Forrest Ave. by Rumford Police Officer D. Maifeld and charged with Violation of Bail Conditions.

    12:00 – Brian James Hutchinson, born 2-23-86, of 16 Franklin St., Rumford, was arrested in Rumford by Rumford Police Officer L. Winson and charged with Failure to Pay Fines.
