    • Poland man charged with Gross Sexual Assault

      POLAND — Matthew J. Thompson, 32, of Mechanic Falls Road in Poland has been arrested and charged with Gross Sexual Assault.

      According to Detective Gary Hill of the Norway Police Department, the crime was committed several years ago in Norway when his victim was only six or seven years of age, but has only recently come to light.

      He said that this is often the case in crimes like this, as young children may not have any idea of what is right or wrong, and no idea about who to contact for help.

      SOUTH PARIS — The following is the Closed Case Report from South Paris District Court from January 1, to January 31.

      Lester Applegate, DOB 3/9/78, of Norway, was charged with Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer on 8/6/10 in Norway by Norway Police. The charge was dropped.

      David A. Austin, DOB 2/17/67, of Poland, was charged with Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer on 10/14/10 in Oxford by Oxford Police. He was found guilty and fined $600 and restitution of $248.

      Philip E. Abbott, DOB 10/30/80, of Harrison, was charged with Cultivating Marijuana on 5/26/10 in Norway by Maine Drug Enforcement. He was found guilty and fined $750.

      Matthew Winslow Allen, DOB 4/17/83, of Lewiston, was charged with Assault on 7/9/09 in Buckfield by Maine State Police. He was found guilty and sentenced for 90 days and probation for one year.

      19:15 – Darren A. Bedard, born 11-21-68, of 346 Wiley Road, Norway, was arrested on Route 108 by Oxford County Deputy George Cayer and charged with OUI and OAS.
